The world we live in today is changing into a very scary place for normal, peaceful, people like you and I. Why is it that fear of personal harm or death by some stranger, something that we think about on a daily basis? Is there a way to stop it? How can we feel just a little safer in our everyday lives? The idea of going out to a movie or to a public place and feeling safe has long gone because of criminals and mentally ill people who think its ok to terrorize and kill the weak and helpless. I feel like it’s time to stand up and protect ourselves any way we can. For a trained individual, carrying an open weapon or concealed weapon is the only answer I see to level the playing field against danger, harm or death by someone out to hurt or kill …show more content…
It can also leave you feeling vulnerable because of only being able to rely on yourself in case of danger. This would include both men and women because no one is excluded from being a victim. It is easier for a criminal to rob and terrorize an individual 20 miles out in the country than it would be for someone living in Manhattan NY. If for example you are alone in your home on the outskirts of the city, and while sleeping, you wake up to the sounds of men talking inside your home. What do you do if the only protection you have is shoe on the floor and these men have guns? Do you start praying they won’t hurt you or do you try and hide like a mouse hoping they won’t find you even though they probably know you are home and alone. Let’s change the scenario and even the odds. You wake up by the sounds of men talking inside your home. You have a loaded .45 caliber handgun right next to you and you grab it. You make sure the safety if off and there is a bullet in the chamber. You yell out that you have a gun and intend to use it if they do not leave your property immediately! If you hear them running out then hopefully you can call the police, but if you hear them coming closer you can start shooting to protect your life and your property. I find that the gun is mightier than the shoe in this

Motoko writes; “Obviously if you get the chance to flee, that’s the first option” (2). But what if the shooter is in front of me? And I have a big chance to be shot by this person, what I do. Motoko states “fight, and if you are going to fight, you need to fight to the end” (2). I think Motoko have a good point, because I believe that if I show fear to the shooter it will be more probability to be shot, or to scare him and show that I know how to defect myself, showing courage.…

To avoid the conflict of deciding whether an intruder had the intention to kill, retreating would be the sound option. However, in certain states such as Florida, “stand your ground” is unlikely. You can use deadly force to protect yourself as long as the intruder has a weapon or is threatening you, to where you feel like that person is going to harm you or your family. A person should not be punished for protected their home or personal belongings, especially if you feel threatened. There is no point in getting shot for living in your own home when an intruder comes in threatening you with your life, you should be able to protect yourself with whatever it takes to keep you and your family safe. Why should you get in trouble for pulling the trigger first? It is written up in the castle doctrine that you basically have to let the person that is trying to harm you make the first move, when sometimes that person might have a gun or a deadly weapon and the first move is not always something that you can come back from.…

Police officers are not always right around the corner to help, and other times it is too late for them to help anyway. The average police response is at least 11 minutes. In most places the response time is much longer than that. Within this amount of time a person can be strangled, shot, abused, or even worse things could happen in just a short amount of time. There are many times that it would be useful to have a plan to be able to protect yourself or others in a time when emergency units have not yet responded.…

However, Philly has gained a reputation for something else in recent years that have brought this nickname into a question; this city has become an example of rising gun violence, with constant shootings and multiple deaths. Every day and night, people are shot and often even killed for various and sometimes mysterious reasons. No can deny that women need protection, yet people argue about the methods. As a female, this decision must made without emotion intervention. I believe that women should protect themselves without carrying guns since it can be used against the victim during the crime, it is a reminder of lake of safety, and civilians in general should not be allowed to carry guns. There is a great possibility that the target who has a weapon can be victimized by their own defense-device for a couple of reasons. A death sentence might be the end of a sexual abuse or a robbery.…
