What exactly is Cloning? Cloning is when you make an identical copy of something or someone. We already know that we can make identical copies of objects, such as printing out paper, but what is now a huge ethical concern is the cloning of humans. Cloning is not scientific fiction anymore, scientists already successfully cloned a whole adult sheep mammal, which is famously known as “Dolly the Sheep”, and also many more animals such as cows, mice and cats.The process of cloning organisms involves the process of somatic cell nuclear transfer. Which means that the DNA of an organism(called the donor) is extracted from a cell(usually a skin cell of biopsy) and it is inserted into the egg cell of another organism, but of that same species. The egg cell has had its nucleus removed in order for the egg cell to start replicating the DNA of the donor organism. Then the newly created embryo is zapped with electricity so that the cell can start replicating, which is then inserted to a surrogate mother(of the same organism)who will produce an identical copy of the donor. If we could clone humans and their organs successfully without any damage, then people with malfunctioning organs could get their organs replaced at a faster and cheaper price, because they wouldn't have to be waiting for a person with the correct match to die. Extinct animals, such as mammoths could also be brought back to life, and endangered animals at risk of being extinct could also be cloned in order to not be an endangered species anymore. Scientists have also cloned animals(as well as plants) that have good survival factors, like producing a great amount of milk, or being a better disease resistant organism, which could be cloned to make better organisms that will benefit them and our environment and
