Everyday more and more fossil fuels are being burned causing global warming to increase. If these levels of global warming increase past normal levels, the world could be facing more dangerous situations. Global warming is a topic that has been studied among scientists over …show more content…
Global climate change greatly affects the way that many living organisms like animals live. As the temperatures rise, living conditions for animals are altered therefore making it harder to sustain life. Scientists believe that by 2050 over one-third of the earth's animal and plant species could be extinct (Schweiger). Some of these animals are polar bears, moose, salmon, wolverines, and leatherback sea turtles which happen to be the largest turtle and reptile in the planet. For polar bears, it is estimated that the increased temperatures will melt their habitat, Larry J. Schweiger who is the President and Chief Exectuive President of the National Wildlife Federation, stated the following, "... the Arctic may be ice free by 2040, spelling the end of critical polar bear habitat in as little as three decades". Given these facts the future does not look bright if global warming continues to climb. However, animal endangerment is not the only thing that the world needs to be worried …show more content…
Heat and humidity are perfect conditions for many insects that carry diseases such as mosquitoes and flies. Besides heat, high Carbon Dioxide (CO2) levels also create difficult conditions for humans but exceptional opportunities for microbes, insects and even plants to affect us. According to an article by senior health and science correspondent at Reuters, Sharon Begley, the carbon enriched air alters the physiology of plants causing them to create more pollen or in the case of poison ivy, become more abundant and toxic. As for mosquitoes, they don't only bite more but due to the patterns of climate change, but perfect conditions are staged for theses insects who often carry malaria, West Nile virus, and dengue fever. These circumstances are to be expected in the near future, however there are some who claim differently such as Arlington, Texas, Mayor Dr. Robert Cluck who says, "There is no question that these [climate related] changes have already begun" (Begley). What is to be expected should come as no surprise due to the amount of global consumption of fossil fuels and output of greenhouse
