Chromebooks have been given to all the students attending Sherwood Middle School. This has been a huge expense for the school. These chromebooks are necessary in this day and age since everything is going towards computers. But having these chromebooks has created some issues at school.
Screen backgrounds have been a big thing for middle schoolers. There has been a lot of commotion involving them. For the first week of school the students were able to change their background on their Chromebook. Some of the middle schoolers had a background that they liked but the school turned off the option and they all lost their images. This was something that they didn't agree with. Kaelan, a middle schooler said “They say that as a 8th grader we have more responsibility, but right now it doesn't look like we do.” They are also still allowed to change their profile picture, which is seen by whoever hovers over that person's name. “Why can we change our profile picture but not our background?” Kaelan said. There was a petition going around and a bunch of people were signing it. This petition was about the option to change the backgrounds. A lot of the middle school signed it and next day they were able to change their backgrounds but

People can’t do anything that is not allowed otherwise the office is alerted to the inappropriate act. Every thing that the student does on the chromebook goes out on a weekly email to the parents. As a 8th grader, they are supposed to have more responsibility but in this case they don't. Middle schoolers have even less responsibility because the kids weren't able to change their backgrounds because the school didn’t want them to load anything inappropriate on to them. The middle schoolers have to take good care of the chromebooks otherwise they have to pay for the repair costs, or use the warranty.
