Australia day commemorates the anniversary of the arrival of the first fleet on the 26th of January 1788. To some, it means the beginning of the dispossession of aborigines and the lost of their culture, but to others that was the birth of a great nation. This time of the year sparks many debates on whether Australia day should be celebrated or not. Chris Berg contends that the emergence of Australia as a great and powerful nation cannot be pinpointed to a certain date, nor is the 26th of January necessarily a date to rightfully celebrate on in his article ‘there is much to celebrate on Australia day’, in which he adopts an evaluative tone. Alternatively, in her article ‘changing the date won’t fix Australia day’, Celeste Liddle argues rationally…

It's not just food either; holiday parties equal excessive drinking, which has its own health repercussions beyond a sudden rush of calories and sugar. Once you break yourself in with more moderate behavior, though, you'll be able to make it through the most treat-filled and libation-loaded parties of the year. Stay Active: Maintaining a healthy and balanced diet is great, but if you really want to boost your health over the holidays you should focus on exercise. Like all the other excuses winter entails, our minds and bodies seemingly conspire to shut down whether we want them to or not. Author of research paper Karen walker Rough draft Did you know that year round schools have a 2% dropout rate nearly three percent lower than schools without the year round program. More schools should make the change to the year round program and join the 3081 schools and 46 states currently employing the year round program. Opponents of the year round school argue that student need a long summer break to catch up on lost sleep, and lose stress. By employing the year round school program schools will provide students with short breaks spread out throughout the year decreasing student teacher burnout, eliminate the summer learning slide further reducing time spent reviewing, and increase the amount of new material learned which in turn increases test scores as well as enrichment and therefore, US schools should rely on the year round program to further boost the education of Americas schoolers. First of all, year round school has short breaks…

The Mill Valley High School Board members should reject the proposed idea of a later school day because it is beneficial to students with after school activities such as sports and jobs. The idea that a later school day is beneficial towards students is preposterous because students with after school activities and jobs would need to be out of school at an earlier hour. Take John Sherwood’s testimony for example. He complains, “But it’s going to make football practice a nightmare. We won’t be able to be dressed and on the field until 4:45, and in October, it starts getting dark by 5:30...…

If school is all year round there will be drastic changes in the american lifestyle. For example school being all year round would be a problem for children because year round school will not give students enough family time. This is the case because sometimes parents like to take a vacation, or a break once in awhile. Therefore the government should let schools have a break during the school year so that children can have time to spend with family and friends. There are many more problems such as parents would have to make scheduling adjustments, and year round school won’t give students enough time to spend with family and friends, and year round school would cost more money.…

School systems have always encountered trouble deciding whether or not to use a year-round education program. There have been studies on the effectiveness on this teaching schedule and most of the results are positive. Other investigations show that teachers themselves enjoy this schedule of learning since it allows them to interact with their students on a more continuous basis, and there is not a gap in curriculum due to summer break. However, students will still have time to rest and relax on the shorter breaks scattered throughout the year. One such study by Ballinger (1987) agrees that “students learn best by a continuous pattern of teaching, practice, reteaching, and more practice, until they finally grasp the concepts being taught”…

Good Moring Mrs Davies and class, Celebrating our national day on the date of British settlement in 1788 has never been a date that brings all Australians together, no matter how many flags we wave or happy barbecues we may enjoy. The date of Australia Day is a disrespectful celebration towards aboriginal Australians.…
