Persuasive Essay On Chimpanzees

“Humane Society International compared a variety of animal tests with their in vitro counterparts and found animal tests were less accurate and more expensive in every scenario tested.” This is significant because it shows that there are so many other alternate experiments. An interesting fact; 95% of animals used in testing are not covered by the Animal Welfare Act which excludes the experimentation of birds, mice and rats. Which is ridiculous because people aren’t rats. They won’t react the same way to certain substances as humans do. Like if a chimp gets HIV it won’t get AIDS like a human would. People who are ok with animal experimentation may say that the tests contributed to a great number of medicines and treatments. No, animal testing …show more content…
An article on an opposing viewpoint webpage says, “Some chimpanzees previously used in biomedical research exhibited symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder similar to those observed in humans...Chimpanzee’s similarity to humans...Their highly developed brains, higher level cognitive abilities and capacity for meaningful social interaction mean that chimpanzees are vulnerable to great suffering when they are confined and subjected to painful and traumatic procedures, as well as their relationships disrupted.”Chimpanzees and other kinds of primates are very similar to humans, but that just means we should protect them more. They are also covered by the AWA. So it’s technically illegal to test on them but, scientists do it anyway. Chimpanzees and other primates are well sought out test subjects because they are so similar to humans. Sharing 98% of our DNA. Primates are also very sociable so as said it would ruin their relationships. Imagine that your friend just all of a sudden just stops coming to school. You can’t find them and can’t contact them. All of a sudden after a few months you find out that their dead or that they just all of a sudden come back but, they're distant. They don’t speak, they don’t listen, they don’t feel. You feel that your friend is broken, traumatized beyond repair. You

The study of human between Chimpanzee has been an old study that until today day it's still realized to show a connection between both of them. Scientifics usually test different things to see if there is any connection between anything it can be living and nonliving things, but especially living things as animals. In we are all completely beside ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler the main character, Rosemary, recap her childhood as an object and part of an experiment between a chimpanzee and her. Rosemary's father was the head of the experiment and with his experience as a scientist he was able to conduct the experiment of a chimpanzee and a human raising together, but he failed acknowledge how that would've affected negatively his own child Rosemary.…

Are you surprised by anything that is said on the website? Why do you think many people are so quick to believe reported statistics? While on the website and reading the article, few things stood out to me. Like many, I was aware of the animal testing epidemic as well as the arguments made by critics and anti-animal testing groups who are opposed to it.…

Comparative Analysis Animal testing is a very controversial topic; everyone has an opinion on it. Those who are against it, like the writer of the article, http://www.choosecrueltyfree.org.au/against-animal-testing/, usually bring up the discussion of the impacts and changes it has made in animal species or the ineffectiveness and distraught it has brought. “Animals metabolize drugs differently from humans: thus substances which are safe for dogs or rats may not be safe for people. For example, Rezulin (for diabetes) passed animal tests with flying colors but killed thousands of people before it was withdrawn in 2000” (choosecrueltyfree.org.au). There are also those who are for animal testing like the author of the article, http://www.pro-test.org.uk/facts.php?lt=a,…

Mary Kate Fain is a great example of an animal lover and activist trying to do the right thing after being revealed what animal testing is really like. Fain wanted to become a neuroscientist and studied at a private university. There, she was able to work in a lab that tested on rats. But after doing this for some time, she became an alcoholic and suicidal because of what they were doing to them. Fain said that she couldn’t sleep or eat because she knew what she was doing was wrong.…

Due to the amount of DNA that chimpanzees share with human beings, they began to be used for a great deal of resource. According to PBS (2008), “...chimps have been used in the study of infectious diseases, gene therapy, vaccine development, reproduction, language, behavior, even anatomy” (PBS, para. 2). While some might appear okay with experimentation on chimpanzees, it is also important to remember that the experimentation done on them have not always been for medical reasons, but for other reasons that cannot be…

There is a highly controversial argument of using animals for scientific or commercial testing. Chimpanzees have 99% of their DNA in common with humans; furthermore, mice are 98% comparable to humans on a genetic level. The United States and Gabon are the main two nations that permit experimentation with chimpanzees (ProCon.org). “95% of animals” utilized in experimentation are not “protected by the federal Animal Welfare Act (AWA), which excludes birds, rats and mice bred for research, and cold-blooded animals such as reptiles and most fish” (ProCon.org). Based on my research and my own personal experience, I found that there are several pros and cons.…

Supporters of animal experimentation say that using animals are important, however there are many methods used today that do not require the use of animals. Many methods used today instead of animal experimentation are in vitro testing, microfluidic chip testing, microdosing, imaging studies, and computer models and simulations (“ethics of medical research with animals” 1-3) In spite of, their differences animal supporters and animal experimentation supporters have things in…

Many proponents of banning animal testing have often said, “ We don't want to use animals, but we don't have any other options,” This is actually not true considering there are models that are now more precise and reliable than animals could ever be. Such models include In Vitro and In Silico testing. In Vitro testing includes advanced microchips. Microchips uses human cells and tissue are able to construct a stamp sized organ that could be tested on by scientists. In Silico testing uses computer modeling, and can make accurate results.…

The use of non-human primates many research questions can only answered through detailed study of a whole living system. The caging of the non-human primates in the research center their behavioral issues are like pacing, rocking back and forth, biting (leaving holes in their arms, chewing off fingers, or tail tips), pulling hair. Dogs used in experiments seem to undergo a lot of pain and suffer of dangerous infectious that causes convulsions, vomiting, and other symptoms. Many of the test are not use with an anthaesthetic. The article "Dogs Should Not Be Used for Animal Experimentation" it says that using any anthaesthetics would make the research even more difficult to make it relevant to humans.…

Undoubtedly the composition of primates and human beings are closely matched, but does this match give humans permission to run experiments that may harm the subjects that voluntarily or involuntarily consent to the research. Many would already have a problem because a primate cannot give consent or permission to anything. Then there are others who believe that God provided mankind dominion over all animals and creatures of the earth. Some people, who believe in divine domain, think humans are able to conduct any experiment or research necessary for the good of society as a whole.…

Why Animal Testing Should Be Banned Everyday innocent animals are being forced into labs and tested for human research advancement. Cruelty Free International states how approximately 115 million animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, mice, dogs and monkeys are used in dangerous laboratory experiments every year. In fact, many of the experiments are said to be useless tests, as stated, “The reality is that the majority of animal experiments do not contribute to improving human health, and the value of the role that animal experimentation plays in most medical advances is questionable” (“Animal Testing is Bad Science”). Misconceptions by the media may stretch the idea how animal testing can cure diseases, illnesses etc.. But actually, as emphasized, animal testing is an inefficient way of finding medical advances, making the procedures to be unnecessary and making there be no reason to force animals into labs without a choice, it's blatantly a waste of animals lives.…

Chimpanzee research is a growing awarness in the world with many countries banning it and arguing that experimenting on these animals is flat out wrong. Chimpanzee reserach labratories are used to conduct invasive experiments to test drugs on chimpanzees, this trend of using chimpanzees for research started in the 1920s. Capturing baby chimps from forests in Africa and hunters would kill any other chimpanzee protecting the babies. Sent off to labs to be tested most of the chimpanzees lasting at most a year. Being that the Untied States is the last large scale user of chimp research, they discover great medical experiments while experimenting, but not caring for the chimps as they should and over using the chimps causing the chimps to experience…
