There is a growing problem in the U.S., obesity. Not just in adults, but now onto children. A whole new generation raised on anything fried, sugar coated and dipped in oil. People will argue that we need to blame the food industry. Putting out all of these new cheap snacks with sugars, fat, gluten and whatever else that’s on the back of the nutrition’s fact label. That’s not the complete case. Childhood obesity can be prevented, all with healthy lifestyle choice by parents limiting the amount of fast food and junk and encouraging physical activates, schools providing healthier food options and educating students on a healthy lifestyle.

Once a child becomes overweight they are twice as likely to get diabetes. The symptoms are a little hard to notices but they will stand out sooner or later. But it also takes an emotional toll on children. Obese children are more than likely to have low self-esteem. Kids see the word “fat” and think of it negatively. Other children are more likely to point out a heavier kid in class and make fun. In some cases cause them to alienate themselves to avoid being picked on. Few cases show that some overweight children over eat from emotional trauma. Kids are a lot more honest than adults and a bit more brutal with the delivery. Causing in some case depression and anxiety. Now children are naturally active, their metabolism can get higher if its not already, its just life style choices that needs to made. It is highly recommended that children spend at least 60 minutes a day doing some sort of physical activity. After school activities are encouraged. Communities are taking initiatives to create parks that are easier to access and safe to play. Healthy eating shouldn’t just be practiced at home; it should be instituted in classrooms as well. Today children don’t get the recommended amount of 2 ½ cup and 6 ½ fruits and vegetables a day, or the recommended about of 2-3 ounces of whole grain and eat more of the 1500-2300 mg recommended amount of
