The real victims of the travel ban are the children. Five of the seven countries, Syria, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, are where children are endangered due to war and poverty. The New York Times cites Unicef, stating that there are more than 2.2 million child refugees coming from Syria and that Unicef is in need of more than $300 million to help the millions of children displaced by the war, using funds raised for water, sanitation, and medical aid. They are seeking similar donations, needing millions of dollars for the other four countries, to feed and vaccinate children in these nations. However, the ban only bars Muslims from entering the country, due to the provision that allows refugees of minority religions from the seven countries to enter the US, brought to light by the Guardian. This seemingly innocent provision takes on a different connotation when paired with the knowledge that the seven countries listed have a Muslim majority. The travel ban is nothing more than a ban on Muslims, flourishing under the Islamophobia and xenophobia ushered in with the Trump Administration.
