Survivors of Chernobyl live on to tell different stories. People like Leonid Telyatnikov had burns on his hands and feet, and they thought it was contagious so he couldn’t see his family for a while. Yuri Korneev a turbine operator was in charge of reactor #4 after he failed the safety test and it was now in the hands of the people in the operating room, so he was told to pay attention to reactor #8. The explosion in reactor #7 destroyed the reinforced concrete. Yuri Korneev went to the hospital and drank alcohol and it cleared the radiation in his body.
Soviets didn’t do anything. They were silent for three days. After that they made only a brief statement.
Many casualties happened during Chernobyl. 31 people died the next day because of radiation and 1000’s more died later. People were born with disorders like they had 6 fingers on a hand, and bigger glands, so children stayed inside. Children were affected the most. Birth rates fell because of defections and the people who did have babies they were called the Children of Chernobyl.
Lots of radiation polluted the air. Forest was crossed off. It affected Britain’s crops and even Canada and America. The blast was 10 times bigger than an atomic bomb and reached Kiev, which is 50 miles
