Persuasive Essay On Breast Cancer Awareness

Why have you chosen to engage those on your campus about breast cancer awareness and the importance of research?

As a role model on campus with the positions I hold such as RA and SGA Vice-president, I know the power I have to empower people. Breast cancer is a vicious disease, it took my mother from me. I will be damned if one had to go through the pain I go through every day. The pain of nothing being able to pick up my phone and call my mother. The pain of not being able to hear inspirational words from my mom to encourage me through mid-terms. As millennials we are up next, we have the power not too only change the world but to impact the world in a positive way. The way we empower is through education and knowledge. "Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family". Kofi Annan

The cancer is wiping us out one by one. The stastic is screaming, its shocking. This is practically a genocide that we do not pay attention too enough. About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.

Research is vital we have to continue to make progress. When my mother got diagnosed with breast cancer I did tons of research. I was sure there was a cure and there was no way I would lose my mother. However, we have not made enough progress. we have not reached the research we need to sway this disease. As much as we stress science and math to children at a young age, we have to teach them about these kind of diseases. You never know we might spark the mind of the little kid that will find the cure.

I believe Hilary Clinton won the final presidential debate. Clinton’s performance was more persuasive than Trump’s because she spoke with sophistication and intelligences. This country can go in two directions. The first way is up, with Clintons ideas and views I believe our country can become great and everything from trade to economy can thrive. The second way is down, with Trumps and his ideas to build a wall to keep immigrants out and his lack of commence sense and human decency.…

What do you consider to be your most meaningful contribution to Colleges Against Cancer during the 2015-16 year? I think I consider my participation in Relay for Life event as the most meaningful contribution that I have made to Colleges Against Cancer during the school year. I was not able to attend Tuesday meetings especially on winter quarter because of a job I had that needed me on Tuesday nights. However, this did not hinder me to constantly communicate to my other committee members. When time permitted this spring, I actively participated during Tuesday meetings, some of the flyering weeks, the production for Relay props, and the event itself.…

At Xavier University we believe in the “All for One and One for All” philosophy; showing that camaraderie and equality among all are still possible. One way Xavier lives up to its support for students is through the one-year long Smooth Transition mentoring program. I served as a smooth transition mentor to three incoming first-year students during the 2016-2017 academic year. In order to ensure that they have a successful first year at Xavier, I informed them about the resources Xavier University provides, including the writing center, mathematics lab, tutoring services, Ohio link, and much more. I also advised them to make good decisions and form relationships with people who would motivate them to succeed.…

I always tell my patients you don’t get to pick if cancer will be a part of your life, but it gets to pick you. Each year, more than 200,000 women in the United States are expected to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and nearly 40,000 women are expected to die from the disease. (Komen Foundation) Through education and perseverance from many groups, such as American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute, American College of Radiology, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists there has been a decline in the rate of deaths due to breast cancer. Breast cancer is still the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women, exceeded by lung cancer. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists at first had agreed with the US Task Force’s guideline changes in 2009 but by the end of 2011 they saw how the information didn’t add up.…

What is a discourse community? A discourse community is a group composed of people that come together or are connected by similarities, and these shared characteristics can be endless, things such as language, religion, and skin color are only the tip of the iceberg. While the possibilities may be endless most people think that they’re only part of one or two, which is far from true because individuals from all over the world come together and relate over the most miniscule things. I myself am part of several different communities that pertain to my tastes in music, style, and age. Although the list for me could be endless, two that affect me the most is being in the millennial community and being part of the young adults all around the world that are in college or out of high school.…

In the past mothers depend greatly on breastmilk as the best way of feeding babies. With the advancement in technology and daily hassles, mothers turn to either breastfeed for a couple of months, then formula feed their babies. Every mother has the right to decide whether to breastfeed or bottle feed, this personal right will be supported no matter the decision. However, exclusive breastfeeding is the best thing a mother can give to her baby for the first six month of the baby’s life. This is because as a baby grows, he or she acquire a lifelong benefit from breastfeeding exclusively.…

Breastfeeding in public is one of society’s biggest controversial issues. Breastfeeding is convenient because you (as the mother) already have the natural materials to feed. The baby will decide when it’s time to eat, so feeding in public isn’t really a choice the mother has but it’s a choice the baby makes. Breastfeeding is healthier because sometimes babies will have an allergic reaction to the cow’s protein in the formula, causing discomforting symptoms. Breastfeeding in public isn’t a choice it’s a responsibility that a mother has, and she shouldn’t be put down because of it.…
