“Did you know that David Tennant’s left eyebrow has its own Facebook Page. You know him, he’s that one actor from the show Doctor Who.” I never knew about this either, until my close friend from high school told me that my senior year. We were both obsessing with the show and I guess she took her obsession a step further than mine. To sum it up, she and I were both emergence of our favorite medias, fangirls. Being a fangirl was possibly the best decision I have allowed myself to be. It has emotionally and socially helped me get through rough parts of growing up, but what consists of being a fangirl? Are fangirls all the same or different from one another or its not as black or white.
Now to be a fan of something, pick a TV show. Not a fan of TV? Pick a book. Not a reader? How about a movie? NO? Fine, just pick something and run with it! It doesn’t matter what you’re a fan of, its all tailored to your liking. All that truly matters how much time and energy you put into it. Now, you can be a very passionate fan, you know, the kind that goes all out; reading all material, researching, out participating with their fellow members, or just flat out obsessing letting the thing engulf their life. Participation genres in the fandom world include; writing, being an artist, costuming, critiquing and being an audience member. There are writers who make up alternate endings and write up possibilities that the original writers didn’t or cutting out certain topics like unnecessary love triangles or adding in story points that enriches character development. And then there is the artists, with their infinite art medium and expansive imagination, they are the heart of the fandom. Supplying amazing pieces that range from a 10 minute sketch to a fully animated short that is 6 minutes long or a portrait that took them six hours to do but it looks hyper
