LOUDONVILLE — A fondness for math and science, participation in the STEM program and membership in the school's robotics team have culminated in the pursuit of engineering careers for Loudonville High School Teens of the Month Cole Kirkbride and Austin Zody. Kirkbride, Loudonville, is the son of Ian and Kris Viets and Todd and Lisha Kirkbride. In the fall he will pursue a degree at Ohio Northern University, where he has been admitted into the mechanical engineering program. Zody, Loudonville, is the son of Scott and Mary Zody. Zody has committed to the University of Akron where, he too, will study mechanical engineering in a five-year co-op program.…
In the novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, Huxley is describing the new generation as too advanced in technology. Huxley uses literary devices such as diction, imagery, and language to create the satiric nature of the novel. The advancement of technology described by Huxley led society to depend on drugs, technology, and have broken relationships. Huxley use of words can be used to relate Brave New World to some similar problems that were happening during his time, the 1930’s.…
The target audience in this paper are senior citizen residents that are new to a senior assisted living facility. Assisted living allows the senior citizen to get the help he or she may need, but still maintain as much independence as possible. Senior citizens represent a very unique part of the population.…
“What could I have done better? I'm a Marine. I'm trained to look for these signs. I couldn't even help Junior because he was beyond our help." said his close friend Auwae.…
The health care setting for this research project is long term care / nursing homes. The health care team in the long term care setting provides a range of services and support that one may need to meet their personal care needs, such as Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL). ADLs are bathing, dressing, using the toilet, transferring (to and from bed or chair), caring for incontinence, and eating. While IADLs are housework, managing money, taking medication, preparing and cleaning up after meals, shopping for groceries, using the telephone or other communication devices, caring for pets, and responding to emergency alerts such as fire alarm (www.longtermcare.gov). Detail Description of the Problem…
Current senior citizens are aging in an era where electronics and technology are a crucial part of daily life. As society becomes more innovative, greater advancements in assistive technology will be created and used in HCBS settings. The formation of new technology will provide services that are cost-effective and used in public housing and various health care settings where the workforce is short of skilled workers in the field (Coughlin, 2014). The creation and use of various networked sensors and monitors will allow seniors to live independently at home, while the information from the sensors and monitors…
“The best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.” I found much greater significance to this quote by Andy Rooney after volunteering at Morning Pointe through the United Way’s Volunteer Center. Through this experience, I was offered one-on-one/small group time with seniors in an assisted living facility in Chattanooga. This opportunity was a deep and meaningful one to me; I was able to converse with people who possessed an abundance of life experience and wisdom and brighten their day in the process. Assisted living facilities are the fastest growing long-term care resource for senior citizens because of their modern approach to senior care.…
Why is it that a working person is required to take drug test to hold a job, where people on assisted living (Welfare) are not? I believe that if I am required to take a drug test to hold and keep a job then they should have to as well. Assisted Living is a great program that helps people that are not able to work and who are physical disabled. With that being said there are people who take full advantage of the program by taking the goods they get and sell them, take that cash and go buy drugs. Therefor showing that the system is messed up.…
Health care affects us all whether we like it or not. Health care is a very controversial topic because many are not happy with the new “Obama care” coverage due to the fact that it requires state funding. Some tax payers do not feel they should be responsible for paying for people who need health coverage. Individuals that go long periods of time without regular check-ups are at risk for medical conditions that require serious extensive medical treatment. Personally, I believe that everyone should have affordable health care coverage.…
A teacher’s goal is to maximize his or her student’s potential. Traditionally, the biggest challenge for students with disabilities was to meet their needs in the areas of social, behavioral, cognitive, perceptive and motor skills (Adebisi et al. 14). A learning disability is defined by the Schwab Foundation as a person who is diagnosed by a professional with a difficulty as a result of a CNS dysfunction in the areas or reading, writing, math, science, reasoning speaking, or listening. In order to meet the diverse needs of these students, they were traditionally removed from the mainstream classroom and placed in a separate classroom to learn. Although this was the best way to meet the students’ academic needs, their social needs were grossly…
MagnetMom complains about how her daughter’s homework takes away her beneficial sleep. With busy families, like hers, they have many after school activities, so when they get home, they do not have time for too much homework. She says that the reality of it is that they are an active family. For active families, homework causes sleep deprivation and takes away the children’s energy they need for the next day. (“How Homework Affects Families”, pg. 1).…

Mental health is one of the biggest problems facing the world today. Lives have been lost through improper treatment of unstable individuals time and time again through mass shootings and other tragedies. Guns are often blamed as the culprit for these attacks but I disagree. While stronger gun control could help lessen the effects of mass shootings, it's not solving the common problem these shootings have in common with each other, the shooter is almost always a mentally unstable person. Banning the weapon a person uses won't make as much of a difference because if the person is unwell, they will just use other means to accomplish their goals.…
According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die from poverty each day: 270 million have no access to health care, and 121 million children are out of education worldwide. Poverty remains one of the most severe harms against humanity in society today. Today, the question is not why one of two children in the world remains in poverty while a plethora of people live luxurious lifestyles, as we know the reasons are lack of education, lack of health care, and lack of income equality, but rather how this detrimental problem can be mitigated. Poverty will never truly be eliminated.…
