Currently, the older population is the fastest growing population in the United States. In South Florida, we have a large elderly population who may greatly benefit from assistive technology; however many are unaware of the availability and use of these products and/or are unable to afford them. The aging population in our community suffer from memory impairments, low vision, hearing loss, decreased mobility, and/or medical conditions that hinder their independence; therefore the use of assistive technology can increase their participation and performance in activities of daily living and decrease care burden. It is expected that 40% of people that are 65 and older experience difficulty in performing their usual actitvities (Perlmutter, Bhorade, Gordon, Hollingsworth, & Baum, 2010).
