Imagine being in a hospital, hearing various animals shriek and cry as people inject you with dangerous substances. This is what happens everyday to animals being tested for cosmetics. Now imagine how to stop it. Animal testing is a cruel process in the makeup industry that should be stopped. With inaccurate test results and lives being at stake, the use of testing on innocent animals is a major problem. Many organizations and countries have encouraged the halt of animal testing, but the fight has not found the turning point yet. One idea is to test products using different methods, such as computer models or tissue models.

In the cosmetics industry, animal testing has become a large problem due to the cruelty and the inaccuracy of tests. Millions of animals are injured or killed each year because of torturous, outdated animal testing (Product Testing). Not only that, but the tests tend to be unreliable when humans use the products (Product Testing). This evidence shows that the testing is

Countries like India, Israel, and even the European Union has outlawed the testing of animals in cosmetics, yet many countries have not even thought about doing so (Product Testing). These solutions have made a great difference in the safety of animals and humans alike, and with the help of organizations such as Peta and the Humane Society, a lot more has been done to help creatures like these. One country that will be hard to convince is China. Only recently, China lifted the legal requirement of animal testing in their cosmetics (China). This evidence has shown that we have made good headway, but only in small ways. Harvard’s WYSS institute has come up with a solution. Instead of testing on animals, we can test on the cells inside of our body that react the same way we would. “organs-on-chips”...contain human cells grown in a state-of-the-art system to mimic the structure and function of human organs and organ systems”. Using technology like would mean that we could ditch animal testing, and start using our cells to make sure products are safe for everyday use. Tissue from human bodies will entirely replace…

Makeup industries such Revlon and other types of industries had discontinued animal testing simply because it doesn’t work anymore. “The food and Drug Administration (FDA) has noted 92 percent of all drugs that are shown to be safe and effective in animal tests fail in human trial because they don’t work or are dangerous”, claims Noah Berlatsky in his document, Animal Testing is Bad Science. Yet, the biggest reason for the discontinuation is advances in technology. “In 2009, industry trade group Cosmetics Europe, along with a division of the European Commission on Research & Innovation, launched a $68-million research initiative to develop lab technologies and computational models capable of predicting the toxicity of chemicals in humans” says Gregory Mone in his article, New Models in Cosmetics Replacing Animal Testing. Nowadays, this gives industries a better advantage in decision to invest their money into better accuracy rather than failed…

I believe that cosmetic animal testing is wrong and should be banned because it is cruel, inaccurate, not very reliable, and has been proven to be unnecessary. Approximately 200,000 animals will suffer and die every year for cosmetics around the world. We as a whole have all decided that this is not necessary which is why we stopped making testing on animal cosmetics something that had to be done. Companies still continue to do it.…

This quote explains animal testing perfectly; “Many cosmetic companies test their new products and ingredients by forcing rabbits, hamsters, and mice, among others, to endure horrific practices such as breathing in poisonous fumes or having lethal chemicals poured into their eyes and rubbed into their skin”(Natasha Cole, Cruelty Free Cosmetics). Many supporters of animal testing will argue that it can have positive outcomes, however, humanity uses it in vain ways. This makes it especially wrong because humans are treating animals cruelly and inhumanely mostly to look attractive. Continuing on about cosmetic testing on animals: “Animal testing for cosmetics is an outdated practice and does not provide the most reliable results regarding the safety, performance, or possible reactions that cosmetic products or ingredients could have in a person” (Natasha Cole, Cruelty Free Cosmetics). The reason to continue these means of testing on animals proves to be no longer relevant because easier and more reliable ways of testing do indeed exist.…

The main reason why we animal test is for cosmetic research, not medical research, which is the only type that can be half accepted. Medical research for humans on animals means they still do not get the correct results we need because of the two different reactions of chemicals in two different animals. Popular brands hide the way they animal test because they know that when people find out their product will not sell as well. Global warming is also a huge and rising problem on our earth, and by cutting out cosmetic research on animals, it will mean a few hundred less factories running around the world and releasing fumes into the atmosphere. This will mean a lot of jobs lost, but there are plenty more jobs in the world and it will only benefit our world.…
