Animal hunting. A year ago a lion named, Cecil was killed by a big game hunter, Walter Palmer. This caused an international outcry from many around the world. Cecil was not just another lion, he was a 13 year old lion who lived in the Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe. This majestic lion had been tracked and studied by Oxford University and was a significant attraction to the park. Now, ever since the incident everyone around the world has been in a uproar. Every year a large group of people pay thousands of dollars just so they can hunt in the eastern hemisphere of the world. This is an issue because many of the impressively beautiful animals in the east are big factors of their country. Therefore, Cecil the lion should have not been hunted. Walter Palmer should not have killed Cecil and should be put …show more content…
Many of Africa’s wildlife are already endangered:“ The black rhino population is down 97.6% since 1960; there are fewer than 900 mountain gorillas remaining; up to 35,000 African elephants were killed in 2014; approximately 2,000 zebra remain in Africa; and 85% of a lion’s historic range has been lost, “according to the African Wildlife Foundation. This comes to show how vulnerable the species are. This proves that Cecil should not have been killed because each year the population of all animals, not just lions are going down and soon one day there will be no more wonderful animals on planet earth. Cecil should have not died because the way he was murdered was not legal: "Our understanding is that when he was shot by a bowhunter outside the park he was shot illegally,“ according to David McDonald. Palmer should not still have his hunting license after he hunted illegally. What he did was illegal and he should not still be able to hunt, it is that simple. Palmer needs to be put behind bars because if he successfully killed one animal illegally and with harm, who knows what animal is

The tragedy of the commons in early 1800’s referred to the misuse of common property resources by humans (Vandermeer et al 1996). Many people were taking for granted how many mule deer we had, without any hunting regulations, the deer were shot constantly, and were not having enough time to reproduce. However, man was not the only cause for the decline in mule deer (Ballard Lutz Keegan Carpenter and Devos 2001). Coyotes (Canis latrans), mountain lions (Puma concolor), and wolves (Canis lupus) have been known to kill many deer. Studies showed that a mountain lions main diet is deer (Piece Bleich and Bowyer 2000).…

Hanging on the wall at my eye level, a vivid painting depict a mountain lion, a dog, and a man caught my attention. Sitting in front of the tree, a man is holding a colt revolver on his right hand and a bowie knife on his left, the weapons he possibly used to kill the mountain lion lying in front of him. A black dog is sitting obediently next to the man. As the man’s mixed facial expression triggered my curiosity to find out more of his story, I took a step closer to this painting, Peter Quivey and the Mountain Lion by Charles Christian Nahl. The painting clearly displays the domination of human over wild lives.…

Goodwell Nzou, a doctoral student at Wake Forest University, in his article In Zimbabwe, We Don't Cry for Lions effectively claims that Americans and those who are not aware of the place of animals in Zimbabwe, should not believe their romanticized ideas of animals in native cultures. He first supports his claim by asserting that the killing of many different animals in Zimbabwe and other African countries is completely normal. He does this by stating,” My excitement was doused when I realized that the lion killer was being painted as a villain. I faced the starkest cultural contradiction I’d experience during my five years studying in the US” (Nzou). This statement appeals to pathos in that it uses different types of imagery and diction to…

Article Analysis - “Should We Kill Animals to Save Them?” by Satvik Gurram Though the fees for hunting animals may presumably go to conservation and help maintain conservancies and wildlife reserves, many critics believe that endangered and big game animals shouldn’t be killed and the benefits of hunting fees are not significant at all. Nyae Nyae, a wildlife reserve in Namibia’s Kalahari Desert, protects one of the last large elephants in the world. In addition to these elephants, around 3,000 of the San people live there in the harsh conditions. During one of the sweltering, scorching days of September, elephants could be seen roaming around the park, leaving behind flat grass, broken twigs, and large feces in their midst.…

A paradox refers to a statement, proposition, or situation that seems to be absurd or contradictory, but in fact is or may be true. One of the more famous paradoxes when it comes to wildlife conservation is the Trophy Hunter’s Paradox. Hunting wildlife, especially endangered animals, seems antithetical to conservation. And yet, conservation hunting seems to be the next “big thing” in conservation. Why is conservation hunting so important to the climate of conservation today?…
