The answer is simple, we need all those farms in order to live. Without these farms producing goods such as corn, wheat, and cotton, we would not be able to live. You know how the saying goes, without Agriculture we would all be naked and hungry. This saying could not be more true. Agriculture is the key to survival for all living things. I wanted to change the world. In the sixth grade I was introduced to 4-H. I was intrigued by everything involved with Agriculture and how it impacts the environment. I was so interested in learning more, so the 4-H teachers introduced me to some people at the extension office. They told me how I could become a 4-H member and compete in a competition. I competed in the Horse Evaluation CDE all through middle school and into high school. Once in high school I was able to compete on the FFA level. I competed in several different events, such as Floriculture, Parliamentary Procedure, Food Science and Quiz Bowl. I loved competing against other schools and I loved the feeling of being on a team. Competing was like an addiction to me. I felt like I was a part of something that was going to change the world. From the moment I started competed with the 4-H, I knew I wanted to be a part of Agriculture for the rest of my life. Once I became a member of the FFA, I was sure about my choice. Agriculture will not prosper without students showing interest in the field. I hope to continue my education at NC State and become an Agriculture Education

And although my original goal and reason for joining has changed, I’m grateful that I did join, because FFA has impacted me in more ways than one. It goes beyond other experiences because as far as an educational experience goes, it has taught me a great deal than I ever expected. FFA has gone beyond just teaching me about cows, plants, and farming, it’s taught me business, life and leadership skills.…

In a recent article titled “Why Industrial Farms Are Good for the Environment,” Jason Lusk talks about the importance of industrial farming and why new technologies are beneficial to our society. Lusk believes, “It is precisely this large size that is often criticized today in the belief that large farms put profit ahead of soil and animal health... But increased size has advantages, especially better opportunities to invest in new technologies and to benefit from economies of scale.” Lusk explains at the beginning of his article that large farms are responsible for 80 percent of food sales in America, filling the shelves with fresh produce at supermarkets. An increase in farm size has advantages because farmers are able to afford technology to better help them yield more crops to feed the world.…

Now the United States is a technological society, and while farming is still a vital necessity, this country’s income comes more from the services and technologies provided. This does not negate the fact that farming is still important to the survival of society as the majority of America’s food supply comes from the back-breaking work of the farmer. Farming is an important occupation that benefits all of society around the world.…

The food that farmers produce is heavily based on the geographical area they occupy. For example, farmers in Asia produce rice, farmers in South America produce coffee, and farmers in Idaho produce potatoes. Farming and agriculture brought man out of the age of hunting and gathering, and allowed civilizations to flourish because they no longer had to move around constantly and gather berries and fruits.…
