The outer phenomenology provides a portrait of a defiant, over confident, exuberant and independent personality behind which is a victim who feels inferior, depressed, dependent, hopeless, and worthless, the disease of Alcoholism has rendered the individual powerless over alcohol and self-control. An added mental agony is that the alcoholic is at least partially aware of the hopelessness of this predicament, but is unable by resolution and will deter his apparent self-inflicted demise. Alcoholism can make a person feel good, it has that capability. It always remains to be an available relatively cheap social lubricant. It is referred to, “The solution to every problem”. It’s a great drug for those who know how use it responsibly and in moderation. It’s for those who know how to handle themselves and for people that don’t make it the “solution” to every “problem”.
