The modernization of our world has greatly improved the lives of millions of human beings. This innovation wasn’t for free, it came at an enormous cost. One of the prices we have to pay for is our air quality. The air plays a vital role in the lives of every organism, for humans the air carries the oxygen that we need to survive. But human beings have rapidly deteriorated the quality of the air ever since the industrial revolution. It has reached a point that the air we breathe can cause us harm and eventual lead to deaths. We need to curb air pollution through lifestyle changes and new technology.
Air pollution is serious problem and it can even be fatal. A study reports that air pollution leads to the death of 3.3 million people around the

When particulate matter has a diameter of 2.5 micrometers, it is possible for it to be inhaled into the lungs and then into your bloodstream. In the case of California, particulate matter is produced from coal fired power plants and the exhaust of motor vehicles. The health risks associated with particulate matter can be very severe to fatal. Long term exposure to PM 2.5 can cause strokes, heart failures, asthma attacks, and damage to airways of the lungs. (State of the Air, 2015.). Air pollution can also lead to the development of cancer, the International Agency for Research on Cancer has listed particulate matter as a cancer causing agent. Doctor Kurt Straif of the IARC said “Outdoor air pollution is not only a major environmental risk to health in general, it is the most important environmental cancer killer due to the large number of people exposed.”(Simon, 2013.). It is clear that air pollution is a serious matter and actions must be taken to reverse the damages that has been …show more content…
Over the past few years we have seen great improvement the fields of renewable energy and clean power. Solar energy is can be the answer to cut air pollution and carbon emissions. Solar energy is available almost across the entire planet and is a limitless source of power. Recent innovations in photovoltaic technology has made solar energy a cheaper and viable alternative to traditional fossil fuels. The reason why solar energy is limitless because it uses energy from the sun and the sun will remain usable source for billions of years. Another reason solar energy is a great alternative is because each year the sun provides more solar energy than human commercial energy consumption.(Blakers, 2015.) Another technology advance is the creation and development of electric cars. On March 31,2016, Tesla Motors unveiled the Tesla Model 3. The Model 3 is Tesla’s answers to an affordable zero emissions and zero gas electric car, the base model will cost 35,000 dollars. As a consumer you have ability to influence the environment with your purchases. Instead of buying a traditional gas or diesel powered car, you can get an electric that will travel 215 miles per charge. Both the advent of solar energy and electric cars cam reverse the damaging effects of air

As he stated, one of the most lethal forms of air pollution is unregulated in many countries. By failing to regulate ultrafine matter, nations are putting the safety of their citizens at risk. Nel agrees with this statement when he writes, “Worldwide epidemiological studies show a consistent increase in cardiac and respiratory morbidity and mortality from exposure to particulate matter (PM). PM is a key ingredient of polluted air and is estimated to kill more than 500,000 people each year” (1). The essence of Nel’s argument is that the negligence of governments to regulate ultrafine and other airborne particles has led to countless deaths.…

Air pollution is a serious issue that affects the entire world. Motor vehicle use, factory output of sulfur-dioxide and carbon monoxide from burning fossil fuels, and the use of pesticides in agriculture which leads to high levels of ammonia, all contribute to the amount of air pollution in the atmosphere (Air pollution, n.d.). Not only are air pollutants depleting our ozone layer, they are also affecting the health of people. As nurses, it is important to be aware of the causes of illnesses in our community. The purpose of this paper is to answer the question, “To what affect does high levels of air pollution caused by traffic, factories, and agriculture have on the population exposed?”…

Owning a Tesla car has its benefits, yet there are few drawbacks that need to be addressed, to ensure this vehicle is widely applicable to the entire society. One of the benefits of owning an electrical vehicle, is no emissions are produces as the vehicle is powered and operated through electrical energy only. This means it requires no sort of fossil-fuels or biofuels, required to actively operate this vehicle. This is essential in current society, as the global warming due to excess production of greenhouse gases, is impacting the entire globe. Through the introduction of green vehicles that produce little to none greenhouse, these automobiles can effectively curb the threat of climate change due to greenhouse gases.…

Although many improvements have been made to the city, New York’s air pollution is still a key environmental issue. New York has 5 major air pollutants which are fine particulate matter (small airborne chemicals), nitrogen oxides (gases produced by fuel), elemental carbon (fossil fuels and diesel gases), sulphur dioxide (power plants and industrial gases) and ozone (vehicle and natural gases). All these gases affect people by causing lung and heart damage and also high levels of Asthma. This lead to the death of 10,000 people. The short-term standard of air quality outdoors is 35 micrograms per cubic metre and the long term stand is 15 µg/m3 Every year, 1,879,464 different types of transportations including buses, taxis, motorcycles and ambulance are registered per year.…

One of the studies that was used showed to show the short term effects of exposure to air pollutants demonstrated that there was an association between an increase in PM10 level by 10 µg/m3 and an increase with 1.27% in cardiovascular disease, 1.45% in pulmonary disease and 2.00% increases in pneumonia hospital admissions (Schwartz, 2001). In the case of the long term effects of exposure to air pollutants, an extended follow up cohort study of Harvard Six Cities Study (HSCS) by Laden, Schwartz, Speizer and Dockery (2006), that showed that an increase in PM2.5 concentration by 10 µg/m3 a relative risk increase by 16%. These studies and other studies cited by the authors support their perspective that particulate matters and ultrafine particles as a major player in increased cardiovascular morbidity and…
