We need more advertisements of families living healthy lifestyle and fewer advertisements for fast food and sugary unhealthy foods. We need to put more emphasis on being active and getting physical exercise. Having more afterschool programs and clubs for children that promote living healthy would be a huge step. Afterschool programs are a great help for parents who work and need childcare, and afterschool programs that focus on healthy habits can greatly benefit children. Afterschool programs that focus on mentoring children with homework or other problems they face as well as health and nutrition are programs that we need to start. Healthy Pokes is a great program focused on child health and wellbeing, but we need more all across the United States.
Adults need to be better role models for children. Getting children started on the right nutritional path early is extremely important to avoid later health complications. Having set meal times and only

The solution is simple. We need to limit the amount of television and electronic play and increase the amount of physical play. Children should be fed healthy foods full of nutrients instead of cheap unhealthy alternatives. Remember that the Let’s Move program has plenty of resources for eating healthy on a budget. Children should not be drinking soda but instead plenty of water and other healthy alternatives low in sugar. As health care providers, childcare providers, parents, etc. we should encourage being physically active and eating healthy. We should not just encourage but lead by example! Seeing individuals who are overweight and obese is becoming the norm in the United States. Let’s put a stop to that and make being overweight and obese rare. People are much more likely to follow the social norm, so let’s make the social norm be living a healthy lifestyle.
