The topic of abortion has always been an extremely controversial topic that I find to be simply worked out; allow everyone to have their own opinions and make their own choices on the matter. Men who fight the pro-choice movement don’t make sense-only women have the right to choose what goes on within their own bodies. In this last year, in combination with the recent elections and growing prejudice throughout the world, the pro-life movement has gained much momentum, and this is just one of the hate-fueled debates that I really wish to see an end to. Although I have not completed any of my freshman year’s service with any reproductive health organizations, I do plan to in the future, and it is a topic which I am extremely intrigued with.

While I may not necessarily agree with those pro-life women, the views of males on abortion are irrelevant. About 77% of current pro-life movement leaders are men. And 100% of these men will never experience a pregnancy. Therefore never actually having to go through with making the difficult choice on whether or not to have an abortion. They will never understand the reasons for which women get abortions- which are not limited to simply not wanting children. There are people who insist abortion is still wrong even as a result of rape, and the woman is then forced to deal with the repercussion of something that was, not at all whatsoever, her fault. While there were many quotes I came across throughout my research on multiple viewpoints regarding abortion, one I repeatedly came across, yet could not traceback to a specific person, was “Making abortion illegal does NOT stop abortions. It stops SAFE abortions.” And this was based off research that proved, in places where abortion was outlawed, the rates of it continuing to happen, albeit illegally, barely shifted over time. The only thing outlawing abortion does, as outlined by this quote, is result in illegal and typically dangerous “homemade”
