In Adelanto, CA students learn math, science, language arts, history,PE and an elective during that time. Some students are struggling academically with this kind of schedule. I believe that students do not need to go to school for 8 hours a day to be successful.Having an 8 hour school day can affect us negatively and positively.

I believe students should not have an 8 hour school day. One reason is because some students may have after school activities such as sports or doing activities such as exploring the outdoors. By missing these things it can affect us negatively and can ruin our chance of expressing ourselves or even ruining our chance of becoming something when we are older. Longer days mean we get home later and then we have homework and that’s taking more time away from us to do sports or explore nature. Another reason is because most students don’t want to go to school that long. On debate.org there was a poll that asked ‘’Should School Days be Longer?’’ in this survey they asked the students this question. 89% said yes and 11% said no. My last reason why students should not have an 8 hour school day is because the school can save more money. Teachers would work less hours, therefore less hours of

Some others may say in a longer school day we can learn more. Longer days give us longer time in classes and more time to learn and accomplish things. This leads to us getting more work done by getting more work done, it can lead to us not having homework. The people that think we should have a longer day have also said students can get their grades up with more time in classes means more time for teachers to help students understand things better. All people have the right to have an opinion and this is some people’s opinion and others think

One reason is because students, teens especially, need more sleep. Studies have shown that teenagers need the most sleep and they usually don’t get half of what they’re body needs. Another reason, stemming from lack of sleep, is health issues. Students can develop several health issues from lack of sleep such as and not limited to anxiety, depression, eating disorders, ADHD, and other issues as well. Another logical reason is because starting school later would save elementary schools and high schools thousands upon thousands of dollars.…

The Mill Valley High School Board members should reject the proposed idea of a later school day because it is beneficial to students with after school activities such as sports and jobs. The idea that a later school day is beneficial towards students is preposterous because students with after school activities and jobs would need to be out of school at an earlier hour. Take John Sherwood’s testimony for example. He complains, “But it’s going to make football practice a nightmare. We won’t be able to be dressed and on the field until 4:45, and in October, it starts getting dark by 5:30...…

Students with normal school days already have a hard time staying awake in class let alone adding another hour to the day. Some schools now have one more hour than others but it doesn't make it a good thing. Schools should not be lengthened by one hour because it would be harder on the students to get up in the morning, students that play sports would have a harder time getting to practice, and students would have less time after school to do things they like. One disadvantage of schools adding another hour is that students would have a harder time with waking up early. Most students in middle school get up at around 7:00 to get ready for school if they were to add another hour into the end of the day students would get home at a later time…

According to the article, "Focus on the School Calendar: The Four-Day School Week" states "State Departments of Education staff says that students do no worse than students on a traditional calendar" which proves that students who have a shorter school week do about the same as students with a longer week (Gaines). The over all results of having a four day week or a five day week are not really any different. In the article, "Top 7 Pros And Cons Of 4 Day School Weeks" research says "attendance of students enrolled in schools that have a four day week shows that attendance is improved as a result" which proves that students come to school most days because they are already getting an extra day to relax and do what they want over the weekend ("Top 7"). Most students do not want to miss school because of the make up work they would have to do from a longer school day. Some students enjoy learning and a longer school day would be beneficial to them overall.…

Schools barely have enough time to teach kids what they need to know for standardized tests. Rahm Emmanuel, the mayor of Chicago and a supporter of longer school days, said in an interview that because schools don’t have time, “students [essentially] have to pick between social studies versus science; math versus music; reading versus recess." (Schaper, 2012) At least one extra month of school would leave the door open to a lot of learning possibilities. Kids leave grade school and are not prepared for what is ahead of them.…
