16 year olds are still sheltered and taken care of by their guardians and parents. How could a teenager, ignorant to the troubles of life, be trusted with helping determine the future of our country. The hardest decision many 16 year olds face is what they would like to eat for lunch. Most have no opinion on medical insurance, plans for children, taxes, and other important issues. I think the voting age should remain at 18, for a few reasons. Among these are that older voters are more aware of the issues, younger voters barely if at all are interested in what is going on in the country, and at the age of 16, I don't believe people are mature enough to truly grasp the impact their vote can have in bringing about change. Older voters are most likely plugged in to the day to day issuses that effect the country because more than likely it,s going to effect them in some way. Whether it's higher taxes that politicians are pushing to raise are trade deals that they are voting into place that will effect their pay in terms of raises and their jobs in terms…

Americans should not be required to vote. Once an action becomes required by the law, it becomes a chore. Document B shows the difference in rates of adults who are above 30 and under who vote. Ages 18 to 29 are at a little above 50%, while the rest start at 60% and go up. It is evident that younger Americans are not as interested or devoted to our elections.…

When someone turns 18 years old the first thing you hear from your parents or an adult is “you can finally vote”, but do people really know what that means? Teenagers are just excited about being 18. They don’t really think about being able to vote because no one really prepares them for it, at least that’s what I felt when I turned 18. When it came to voting I really did need to know what the Electoral College really does. What I found was that everyone in the United States doesn’t really vote for the president they want directly.…

Sixteen year olds pay taxes, drive, and are allowed to drop out of school, so why can’t they vote also? Voting age in the United States is currently eighteen years old, although teenagers younger than that are still required to do many things that are controlled by how people vote on the ballots. I believe that the voting age should be lowered to sixteen years of age. If the voting age were lowered, it would allow schools to encourage voting, and even educate students about the process before they go to the polls.…

The youth of today tend to be seen as lazy, incompetent children who feel entitled to everything they see. The media paints The Millennials and Generation Z as a group of people who feel too privileged to vote. Although the 18-25 year olds statistically have one of the lowest voter turnouts, they overwhelmingly vote Democratic. In a poll conducted in 2014, 51% of 18-25 year olds voted Democratic, whereas 35% voted Republican. (A Deep Dive Into Party Affiliation, 2015).…

Should 16 and 17-year-olds be allowed to vote? In the article, “Takoma Park 16-year-old savors his history-making moment at the polls” by Annys Shin, stated that about 350 students ages 16 and 17 would be allowed to vote granted to them by Takoma City Council. Which means that the Montgomery community is the first to lower the voting age from 18 to 16. I believe lowering the voting age from 18 to 16 is not the best idea in the world.…

Teens, the group that has been misunderstood for many years, are actually the future of our Country. The turnouts in the voting polls have not been the best for our younger eligible voters, they are voting at a much lower rate than their older counterparts, in this case their elders. According to Rob Richie, director of the national reform organization FairVote and a resident of the Montgomery County, which is the first to lower the voting age to sixteen says he had seen documents from Denmark reporting that “younger teenagers are more likely to cast a ballot than their slightly older peers” which might just boost the turnouts in the voting polls for our younger citizens, and completely change results of upcoming elections. Which comes to show how much of an impact lowering the voting age to sixteen can have on this country.…

Cameron Kuil My Responsibility to America America was built on many different views, but most importantly it was built on freedom. I, as an American think I live in one of the greatest countries on this earth and want to do what is right to keep it that way. As young Americans we have many responsibilities to live up to, the simple things like to learn, obey, and vote. I think the ability to learn and our intelligence as humans is one of the greatest gifts that god has given us.…

The age for voting has been a discussion for a long time, it has changed to fit the views of the people and what they think is the idealistic age. Now the debate is whether it should be changed to a lower age than it is now. One thought is to change the age allowing you to vote to 16. In the past, the age was lowered from 21 to 18 during the second World War. The reasoning behind the switch was “old enough to fight, old enough to vote.”…

I strongly agree with keeping the voting age at 18. I think lowering the voting age would not make a difference at all. I say this because teenage kids from the age range of 16-18 lack personal responsibility , and if he or she do not have that i know for certain they would lack civic responsibility. I know this will be an opinion i will be stating ,but honestly no teenage mind is focus on politics neither voting percentages. Another problem with lowering the voting age for teens is a legit political reason for voting.…

In the US there are 318.9 million people 242.4 million are 18 and over and they can vote nevertheless there are 76.5 million kids 17 and under who can not vote. There are 130 million people who voted in 2012 and if we had kids 17 and under vote it could go up 1 vote to 76 million more votes just on letting kids vote that could bring up to 200 million more votes. If they let kids vote. “Before the vietnam war was going on the age for voting was 21, nevertheless when the war of vietnam came they lowered the voting age to 18”. Which we have done this before in the past, Just wealthy white men could vote, then landowners who were white and male could vote, then only men could vote over 21, later on men and women could vote at 21, then black people could vote, finally during vietnam it switched again to 18.…

When one is voting, they are trusted to make a mature decision. Eighteen is mature enough to decide who should run the country, but not mature enough to buy and consume alcohol legally. One is trusted to vote, but one is not trusted to have a drink. Chris Busby once stated in his monthly magazine, “If 18-year-olds are considered mature enough to fight in wars, they’re mature enough to drink in bars. To this I would add that if 18-year-olds can vote for the politicians who start wars, they’re old enough to choose the wrong brand of beer, too.”…
