This incident had caused there to be a nationwide debate on whether concealed carry should be allowed college campuses. The argument was that with concealed carry campuses will become safer even though, classrooms should never be a place for guns. Guns should not be allowed on college campuses in order to create a healthier learning environment and limit the risk of suicide.

It is a leading cause of death among college students in the United States. For example, in “Why Our Guns Are Safer without Concealed Handguns”it explains, “Suicide attempts are successful more than 90 percent of the time when a firearm is used”(635). Evermore, with allowing a student to conceal carry it will dramatically increase the number of suicides on campuses. Plus According to Skorton and Altschueler, Guns give the student a better chance in succeeding when attempting suicide(630). In other words, introducing guns to people who are susceptible to suicide is just not logical. Keeping them off campus will affect the suicide rate negatively. Suicide is unfortunately a huge issue on college campuses
Guns should not be allowed on college campuses in order to create a healthier learning environment and limit the risk of suicide. Even Though people might argue that they are need to protect ourselves in case of another shooting, i believe there are other ways to do that than allowing concealed carry. By allowing concealed carry we will be prone to more accidents and it will also affect the suicide

In her opinion piece, Zenobia Harris shows the potential unintended consequences of carrying a firearm on campus. She provides solid statistics from notable organizations such as the RAND Corporation and CNN and a refuting argument from a state legislator. She ends her argument stating that protection of students should be left to the police on campus, and that students should find other means of protection other than firearms. The potential negative outcomes really do seem to outweigh the positive aspects of carrying a firearm on…

Guns are not going away, that just is not possible; therefore, we must arm those who are capable, realize that complete gun control will not stop the mass shootings, and allow concealed carry on college campuses. Every American citizen holds the right to protect themselves as well as holds the right to bear arms and therefore should be able to act on that right. College campuses are not safe, and though there are public safety officers, most of the time they are in their cars and would not be able to arrive in time to do something; however, someone in that classroom who has a concealed carry permit and brought their gun might just be able to stop some people from being killed should he or she choose to act accordingly. It is the right of the American citizen to protect themselves with a weapon should he or she choose to do so and the government should not threaten to take that away, nor even attempt to take away one of our rights which was given two hundred and twenty five years…

Having weapons on campus is also a liability issue.…

The argument toward allowing guns on campus could be that allowing more guns on campus could create a possible mass-shootings because people have more access towards guns and bringing them on campus, but however because of this there could be students who have no want to cause a mass shooting instead they want to protect themselves, and other classmates from a possibly dangerous individual. When a shooter enter campus a “good people find themselves in what he calls “ the dark place”,confronted by the imminent terror of a gun-wielding homicidal maniac, the picture becomes clear”,a piece of paper,a sign that says gun free zone or a federal gun law won 't protect us from being murder instead the best protection is a “prepared and brave defender with the proper lifesaving tool-a gum”(Wheeler 619-620).A way to prevent the mass-shootings from increasing because of they allow guns on campus would be to install programs that show who is carrying a gun,if they legally purchased it,do they have a history of violence?,should they carry a gun because of their criminal record even if it may not be a violent and if not then they will not be allowed to carry one legally on campus. This protocol would be used to make sure that we don 't have the wrong people carry guns because those people may be the ones to attack the school,so instead we allow a majority of the guns to carried by the good students as well as the professors. Even with these protocols, we cannot completely end…

Guns on Campus The issue being debated claims that gun possession with students and staff on a school campus could either harm or protect innocent people. The debate suggests that either guns should not be allowed on campus at all or there should be limitations on where they would be allowed. There have been some who believe there are instances in different colleges that have had situations that it would have been critical for them to have had a hand gun on them at the time. Amanda Collins argues that because of a state ban on concealed handguns on public college campuses had left her vulnerable to a man who raped her at the University of Nevada at Reno.…
