Labeling Genetically Modified food
Genetically modified foods are introduced into everyday life without people noticing it. These transgenic foods are vegetables and whole grains that have been genetically modified, so their crops have increased in production. “Nearly 90% of corn; 94 percent of soy; and 90 percent of cottonseeds grown in the U.S. are from GE seeds” (Starkman 249). Most of the time people do not realize what are they eating or consuming in their food because food does not contain labels on products that help the consumer identifies food GMOs. Genetically modified food should be labeled because people have the right to know what are in their food.
GMO food should have labels in every single product that is consumed in our daily live because it affects the environment and our health. …show more content…
These genetically modified foods are manipulated in laboratories. During this process, the DNA of an organism is altered and manipulate, which generally is a plant or animal. Jason McLure a New Hampshire-based correspondent for Thomson Reuters and Africa correspondent for Bloomberg News worked for Legal Times in Washington, claims, “Opponents argue that the jury is still out on the safety and environmental effects of GM crops and that, at the very least, growers should better inform the public about the use of gene-transferring techniques in food” (par. 17)…. In that in this manipulation of organism, scientists added to the DNA strand features to allow the plant to increase production in order to help man cultivate more products. In addition, resistance to diseases caused by insects or viruses is affecting vegetable production, which has experienced a higher tolerance to
