Bass starts off by saying, "I was a hunter before I came far up into northwest Montana, but not to the degree I am now." (337) , while Leopold also writes something similar," In those days we had never heard of passing up a chance to kill a wolf. In a second we were pumping lead into the pack, but with excitement than accuracy." (58). Both authors come from a hunting background were each took the activity lightly, but after they matured and experienced life, they are now looking at hunting differently.
