High school, otherwise known as the “best four years of your life.” But why can it not be the best three years of your life, or maybe simply three years of your life (rhetorical question)? While these four years of dances, football games, parties, and homework can truly be the best four years of someone’s life that may not be the case for everyone. In a world dominated by the acceptance and flexibility of standards, it seems that the educational system shows little adjustability in the time required for high school graduation. At 31 years old Bill Gates created Microsoft, now a worldwide leading technology company. All of these people successfully created revolutionary products at extremely young ages. Nowadays jobs are being created an occupied by people much younger than before. If students are allowed to graduate high school in three years instead of four, they will be one year closer to possibly creating the next groundbreaking social media. Some students exceed the intelligence levels of their classmates, and are simply being weighed down by that extra year of high school. Nicholas Meyers, a student of high intelligence capabilities, stated on the Wall Street Journal: “If I get out a year early, that’s a year extra of pay, and that’s a year earlier of retirement” (Meyers). He exemplifies the benefits of graduating high school a year earlier. Students who exceed average learning capabilities should not be held back by high school like a dog held back by a leash (simile). Instead, these students should be granted the right to pursue their interests, and completely use the skills gifted upon them. Even students who do not excel in education should still be allowed to graduate early. While it may be true that some consequences of three year graduation are missing out on senior prom, losing high school friends, and not getting the full high school experience, the students who choose to graduate early are aware of the consequences and are not affected by them. These students are either in need of early graduation, or have the skills capable to graduating early, and since it is their choice, those consequences are merely extra benefits. For example a senior teenage girl will be sadder if she has to miss prom to take care of her child, than she will be if she is not at prom because she already graduated high school. Early graduates will not be affected by any consequences because they are choosing to skip senior activities, not being forced
