Many schools already struggle to pay teachers a competitive wage, making it hard to hire, and keep high-quality teachers. The cost of teaching as a full-time endeavor may not be feasible either locally or federally, especially if you want the children to have good teachers.
Some supporters of the year-round system claim that it is better for people suffering from food insecurity, and that there are not enough summer eating programs. However, on the year-round system, there are just as many days out from school where these children have little to no food. That is moving the food around on the plate, and has no effect on these people's lives. The responsible way to do this is to simply install more summer eating programs, but that is an argument for another time.
Teens who need work to to help support themselves or save up for college will have trouble finding a job that works with their new schedule, and even if they do find a job, it will be difficult to hold. Year-round schooling simply does not offer enough job opportunities for struggling teens to get by.
