Baylee, Trevor, and then Dylan. Growing up, I was always third. That’s just the way it has been. The trouble with being the last child in your family, is that almost everything has already been accomplished by the time it is your turn. It felt as if I was not striving to do achieve anything for myself, but trying to catch up with my siblings. This did help motivate me to do my best, but in the few …show more content…
When I was not competing I was studying and learning new things during school. It soon became apparent that even though I could not beat Baylee and Trevor in atheletics, I could beat them in academics. So that is what I did. I not only become one of the best in the class, but I also integrated into my schedule a total of eight college classes along with my regular high school classes through college credit plus. I have to admit, at first they were pretty challenging. The fact that they were six of them were completely online was something completely different to me. I did struggle to get integrated into them and did not do very well with my first three, but I feel I bounced back with all of my other ones. One the simple highlights of my academics was the mere fact that I was able to obtain and hold a 100% or higher for five out of our nine week quarter in my college calculus class, which my teacher, Miss Rohrs, said had never been done before. Take that Trevor! Of course though, it had to end with just a simple 98% on one of my quizes. After all is said and done however, I would not want to change my life with

The writing expected from college courses is one that most are unfamiliar with. Although students learn basic English skills throughout grade school and up to high school, most of the advanced steps are forgotten by the time the student is to enter college. Paired with this, are the nontraditional students, who haven’t studied advanced academic language for long periods of time. Professors are expecting students of all kinds of study to have a high academic vocabulary and high writing skill. Often times a gap in remedial writing courses within the first semester or so.…

Despite the new outburst of year-round schooling across the nation, I have the firm belief that we should retain the traditional system. Most schools who have switched to the year round calendar switched back to the traditional one because the anticipated instructional advantages haven’t materialized. In some cases, it even results in a drop of one to two percentile points in national rank for reading, math, and language scores, compared to a traditional calendar. It is not a good idea to keep making this change.…

Dear State Representatives and other supporters of the Common Core Standards, It was not until my junior year of high school that I had recognized the severe impact of your new standards on our education system. Initially, I had only thought a new standardized test was being introduced-- that the school district was simply transitioning into a new form of standardized testing. The reality was, however, that the traditional methods of teaching that have been applied to education systems all over the nation for years, were about to change drastically.…
