This rate caused me to think back on how mercy is shown to children in the justice system, and if there is any at all? One thing to consider is that “An estimated 7,100 juvenile defendants were charged with felonies in adult criminal court in 1998” according to an unknown author on bjs.gov. The fact that 7100 children were tried as adults for their violent crimes doesn’t seem like a correct representation of mercy in the judicial system. The mere fact that there is a difference in a minor and an adult, yet minors can be tried as adults doesn’t seem to make much since does it? We have an age limit of 18 which differentiates between a person being considered a child and an adult, some one under 18 cannot buy cigarettes, can’t get a tattoo, cant vote or sign a legal document. Yet some one who is under the age of 18 and still can’t contribute or take part in our equal liberties can be tried as an adult, who can do all of those
