Animal Testing Should be Illegal Animal testing is cruel and should be illegal. When animals are tested on, millions suffer because of the painful and unnecessary tests. There are many reasons as to why animal testing should not be allowed throughout this paper. One thing you may not see is that there is an Animal Welfare Act, but it does not help the animals being caged in a lab. A human and an animal most likely will not react the same way to certain drugs, some drugs even do not go out into the world after passing the animal tests. Not one animal is perfect and there are still a lot of differences between the animal and a human (“Should Animals Be Used in Research?”). Some of the animal's they test on are dogs, non-human primates, pigs, rabbits, cats, hamsters, …show more content…
There wasn't much to find on animal testing in the US, but there was for the U.K. In the U.K. four million animal procedures are performed yearly (“Should Animals Be Used in Research?”). When they test, some are painful, they hurt the animal’s skin or eyes in some of the tests. Also they can hurt them from constant force-feeding, which causes the animal to gain an excessive amount of weight, which causes them to be miserable (“Fact Sheet: Cosmetic Testing”). Those animals they test on are constantly locked in cages in the lab and they also could be in constant pain and no one cares. Testing can also reduce the quality of life (“Should Animals Be Used in Research?”). Animals can be killed in research, thirty-one percent of them are killed to avoid pain, but is that any better for the animal (“Animal Testing Statistics”)? Also most are killed at the end of testing anyway, usually by suffocation, breaking of the mechanism, or

For most people there are two scenarios that come to mind when they hear animal testing. The first scenario is that scientist are torturing, neglecting and abusing the animals that are being tested on. The other scenario is that scientist are being ethical, take care of the animals and are creating life-saving medicines. This makes the use of animals in experiments a controversial topic; a topic that isn’t quite black and white when argued. There are different types of animal testing like, medical testing and cosmetic testing; one is more ethical than the other.…

Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. These animals are subjected to forced feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, infliction of burns and wounds to study the healing process and effects and remedies. Among the cruelest experiments is the Draize eye test which evaluates irritation by shampoos and other products to the eyes. During this experiment rabbits are restrained and their eyelids are held open by clips for multiple days which leads to the death of 50% of rabbits used (Scientific American, "Do Cosmetic Companies Still Test on Live Animals?," scientificamerican.com).
