“In the USA, there are approximately two million infertile couples waiting to adopt, many times regardless of the child’s medical problems such as Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, HIV infection or terminally ill” (Brown, Kristi). According to a project completed by the Abortion Rights coalition of Canada, many women stated that they have no real choice when it comes to abortions as they do not have the financial resources to support themselves or a child. Raising a child is costly. Mothers have to buy diapers, milk, clothing, and pay for child care on top of many other expenses. All of these things add up over time and could cause financial complications for someone who is not prepared. When the chances of having a special needs child or a child that requires a great deal of attention is increased, this could also cause a financial strain and make the mother question rather she really wants to carry her baby to full term.…

If abortion were deemed illegal, the number of deaths associated with unsafe abortions would drastically increase as seen in statistics before legalization. However, an anti-abortion challenge for making abortions illegal would be that women should choose to deliver the fetus and give it up for adoption. Anti-abortion advocates point to many benefits the potential fetus could have with adopted parents. An example of a suitable passage would be that a child being given up would permit couples to fertility problems the chance to make a family (Garton).
