No one likes getting a response from an employer saying “that although you have the experience, we decided to go with someone more qualified.” Continuing education can open up previously closed doors and/or lead to better job opportunities. My choice to return to school is for personal and professional reasons, with the intentions of gaining the knowledge and skills to be successful. I’ve been working in the same field for the past 8 years although I haven’t been at a standstill with my career it’s just time to finish up what I started. Continuing education may not be important to some, but it’s important to me. I am looking to continue on with finishing my degree so that I won’t be one of those people who get so comfortable in their day to day activities that they become stuck in one position with no room to grow, change is good. It’s also true that college isn’t for everyone; a person can still lead a happy successful life without obtaining a college degree. Not only can someone lead a successful life without a college degree, but they may also be educated. Every day we are faced with different situations at work where we have to apply the right knowledge to solve a problem. Throughout my working career, I have experienced so many changes and challenges. I strongly believe that finishing up my degree will give me the necessary tools to better understand and work thru those changes and challenges. I really enjoy the work that I do. I also acknowledge the fact that I have many strengths and weaknesses. I know that finishing up my degree will allow me to sharpen my skills and overcome my weaknesses.
