Passion is vital if you want to excel in this field. You can’t go into photography thinking that it’s all about the money. If money is your sole motivation from the beginning, then you will burn out quickly because you’re probably not going to be making very good income, if any at all, in the beginning. You absolutely must LOVE photography, so much so that it’s all you ever think about. You should wake up in the morning excited about shooting your next subject or scene. They say it takes approximately 10,000 hours to become an expert at any skill. If you want to become an expert in photography, then prepare to put in hours of work. Aim to invest 10 to 15 hours a week towards learning your craft, creating new photos and building your business. It’s not necessary to quit your job while you’re building your new photography business. Just make the commitment to take some action and DO THE WORK.

LOVE TO LEARN

With photography, you will always be learning something new. In fact, those that excel in the world of photography are probably those who love learning. As the owner of your own photography business, not only do you need to be great at photography, but you also need to learn how to navigate the world of marketing. You’ll be designing your blog, making social media posts, meeting new clients, managing your accounts, and so much more. So if you want to be a pro, you’ve got to be willing to learn about the business side just as much as the creative.
