First of all, drugs should be legalized to save money. The United States spends billions of dollars every year fighting drug war. Taxes collected from legalized drug sales could be used to fund many government programs for example schools. The money could be used for treatment programs to get users off drugs and education programs to prevent children and others from using drugs in the first place. According to D.R. Blackmon notes ("Moral Deaths," June 1988), drug prohibition has helped propagate AIDS among intravenous drug users. Intravenous drug users inject heroin and other drugs with hypodermic needles, access to needles is restricted which means that users share needles. Diseases and STD’s are pass on for example, if a person using drugs has infected blood and some enters the needle as it is pulled out, the next user may shoot the infectious bacteria or virus directly into his or her bloodstream. Legalizing drugs would stop the motivation to restrict the sale of hypodermic needles.
