The Mill Valley High School Board members should reject the proposed idea of a later school day because it is beneficial to students with after school activities such as sports and jobs. The idea that a later school day is beneficial towards students is preposterous because students with after school activities and jobs would need to be out of school at an earlier hour. Take John Sherwood’s testimony for example. He complains, “But it’s going to make football practice a nightmare. We won’t be able to be dressed and on the field until 4:45, and in October, it starts getting dark by 5:30...…

If school is all year round there will be drastic changes in the american lifestyle. For example school being all year round would be a problem for children because year round school will not give students enough family time. This is the case because sometimes parents like to take a vacation, or a break once in awhile. Therefore the government should let schools have a break during the school year so that children can have time to spend with family and friends. There are many more problems such as parents would have to make scheduling adjustments, and year round school won’t give students enough time to spend with family and friends, and year round school would cost more money.…

Mandated minutes in elementary schools should exist for all subjects, not just P.E., because it is exceedingly important for all subjects to be taught to the fullest extent, some teachers only teach subjects that are tested or monitored, and in order to ensure equal education opportunities for all students, all teachers should spend the same amounts of time on each subject. They do not, however, have any recommendations on how many minutes of history, science, or visual and performing arts should be taught. Creating a law that mandates instructional minutes of all subjects can be immensely beneficial…
