Many people think that once they turn 18 years old, that they are an adult, but are they really? In the state of California, a person is considered an adult at the age of 18, however, they aren’t allowed to drink alcohol. Being an adult comes with great responsibilities, such as making wise choices and knowing how your choices might affect your future. Dictionary.com defines being and adult as, “having attained full size and strength; grown; mature.” As defined by dictionary.com, a person is considered an adult once they are mature. For example, as mentioned before, in the state of California a person is considered an adult once they turn 18, but not everyone who turns 18 is mature or prepared to make wise choices. However, if a person was considered an adult at the age of 21, it would be understandable because many people at the age of 21 are more likely to be mature. A person should be considered an adult at the age of 21 because by that age they are wiser, have less peer pressure, and are more responsible, on the other hand, someone people, despite their age, are responsible. …show more content…
Many teenagers just want to party, get drunk, and they make irrational decisions to impress others. However, a person who is 21 years old might be more capable of making wise decisions. At the age of 21, most people can tell from the good and the bad, have priorities, and are looking forward to their future. By this age, some focus on their career.
