Persuasive Essay A 3.5

Improved Essays
I think students should have at least a 3.0, but not a 3.5. There are many reasons why, mainly because it is unfair for the students. For example, if a student who has a 3.28, but is really good at basketball, would you turn him down? Probably not. What if the student has below a 3.5 but is taking lots of AP classes. He should still be considered a very smart student and can be included in extracurricular activities. In some cases, there needs to be a 3.5 or above rule, but there has to be some exceptions. To become a good school, students have to be very smart, and the ones who are not, has to be talented at something other than academics. With this rule, students won’t have a fair chance for express what they are good at, and if they are

In “Why Elite-College Admissions Need an Overhaul”, Jonathan R. Cole, the author of the essay, made a very strong argument on why the college admissions process is not right or fair. Within his argument, Cole states what elite colleges look for now, why what they look for is wrong, and what colleges should do instead of their current process to prove his point. I agree with Cole in his statement that the college admissions process needs an overhaul because there are some phenomenal students who are being looked over by colleges. Although I agree with his statements, I do not necessarily agree with the way Cole thinks the process should be.…

If Winston's newspaper is demolishing the use of bigger words, than why even publish his newspaper? He shouldn't have to “dumb down” his intelligence just so people could understand it. Throughout the book it is also explained that the people are under tight surveillance and the government also restricts what can or cannot be said or released to the public. Why would the public want to follow such a monarchy type of government? Are they scared to speak up against the government?…

The issue of declawing is being made more obvious to the horrors it can cause to your beloved feline friend. When an onychectomy, otherwise known as a declaw, is performed it is equal to cutting off your finger at the first knuckle. The bone of the third phalanx is removed, it is not just cutting the nail off. Cat's nails retract, by cutting into these muscles and tendons you risk serious long-term physical and emotional impacts. 61 of 163 cats experienced chronic pain for 1-42 days after the surgery ("American Veterinary Medical Association", 2016).…

Despite the new outburst of year-round schooling across the nation, I have the firm belief that we should retain the traditional system. Most schools who have switched to the year round calendar switched back to the traditional one because the anticipated instructional advantages haven’t materialized. In some cases, it even results in a drop of one to two percentile points in national rank for reading, math, and language scores, compared to a traditional calendar. It is not a good idea to keep making this change.…

Argumentative Essay: Flaws of the Education System There are inherent flaws within the education system which we use today pushes students far beyond their limits and it lacks emphasis on practical skill. Schools create a needlessly high stress environment basing their future upon numbers and grades rather than teaching and refining their practical skills. Lots of potential is flushed out of the curriculum due to college and high schools insisting that students must be able to juggle advance courses, maintain high unweighted GPAs, and participate in extracurricular activities in order to succeed in the future; hence, repairing and recognizing the inherent flaws of the education system is crucial to ensure that students earn the future that…
