Persuasive Duo Speech

Decent Essays
Giving persuasive duo speech was a great practice for a collaborative work. Two aspects that I liked about my speech were the citation and taking my time to speak. I noticed that I incorporated my sources in my speech in which I should have in my past speeches. I appeared to be more credible to my audience. I also like how I was taking my time to speak. I wasn't rushing when I gave my speech. I understood myself clearly. One thing that I have to improve is definitely movement. I was swaying back and forth during my speech. In addition, my fillers "uhm" need some serious help. When I was practicing with Anthony, I wasn't using "uhm" but when I'm nervous I tend to use "uhm". I have to work on it.

If the Newseum is torn down, the first amendment will not have a place to be celebrated just for itself, so there will be no place to celebrate the first American Constitutional freedom. President Trump is pressuring Congress into passing a bill that will start a project to make room for new monuments. The project will consist of tearing down monuments that the government feels are unnecessary. The project will ruin DC and the American spirit. If the bill does pass, the Newseum should definitely not be torn down since it is a reminder of what America is, it will have horrible economic effects on the country, and tearing it down will diminish the American spirit.…

Queens-dwellers have mixed feelings upon hearing the road running from Jamaica, Queens to Midtown Manhattan, known notoriously as the Boulevard of Death, is ultimately undergoing much needed reform. On July 23, Mayor De Blasio announced the implementation of a $100 million dollar project, called Vision Zero, which will completely reconstruct the boulevard, making it a safer place primarily for pedestrians and bikers. Queens Boulevard is the widest street in New York City (175-225ft) on which more than 60,000 cars navigate tedious traffic jams everyday. Since 1990 to date, an outstanding 185 people, predominantly elderly pedestrians, have lost their lives on Queens Boulevard. The word mestizo is popularly known as a man of mixed race, who is often the offspring of a Spaniard and an American Indian. This simple word brings two unique cultures, two different races, and two different set of values, and merges them together to create a unique and culturally diverse person. Many have heard the word, many have used the word, but did we ever stopped to think about the real social value and controversy this word carries in its meaning? The history of mestizos and mestizaje should serve as a role model of how merging cultures can have a great and positive impact in the world, but it should also be a lesson on the struggles of being portrayed or expected to act as a certain nationality, race, or even a stereotype, especially…

After reviewing my persuasive speech over why the University of Oklahoma is the best university in the nation, I would sum up my speech as a little bit of train wreck. Although I made good claims with factual evidence, the amount of stuttering I did, and all the times I was choked up throughout the speech drew my audience’s attention away. From this, I lost my audience’s belief that I was competent of the information I was reiterating to them. At the introduction of my speech I believe I started out fairly strong and gave a good run down of the coming speech.…

The first thing I noticed in my video is that I say “umm” way too often. The first time I said, “umm” in my speech was at 0:10 and continued to say it throughout my whole entire speech. I found it quite annoying when listening to myself. It is my go to word when I am nervous and it is something I really need to work on.
