Growing up as a competitive dancer, things have always been chaotic and unorganized in my life. Between rushing around to get to the correct stage on time, or helping all the mini dancers get their hair into french twists; somehow, I always find time to take a deep breath and organize my thoughts. Regardless of how crazy things can get, dance has always been a get away for me. Even though I am at the studio to learn all I can, and compete, it seems to be relaxing for me. Growing up at Caledonia Dance Company has brought so many opportunities my way, and I hope to do the same for young aspiring dancers in the future.

I have big dreams of creating a less crazy, but still fun, environment for young dancers to grow up in. I believe that the studio a dancer grows up in, shapes her/him not only as a dancer, but a person as well. I want to be able to help and watch both girls and boys grow in the field of dance. My plan is to not only have a studio with a inspiring competitive team, but to also prepare dancers for the industry and working dance world.

I plan on creating a business that caters to both the needs of the dancers and their parents, with lower prices for classes and a well rounded staff, that is sure to give the dancers the most for their money. I dream of a studio called Making Moves Dance Complex that is well known in the competition and industry world. I want to create beautifully technical dancers that are a shoe in for any job. I want to train young men and women to not only dance but to act, model, and choreograph; all things I was taught growing up in the dance

The short interview with Lauren Anderson is so inspiring that gives me an insight into passion and success as well as motivates me to persist in following my dream. Anderson’s story of her career as a principal ballerina seems quite simple and typical as she started early at seven, soon became a principal dancer of Houston Ballet, and then now is giving back to the society by teaching ballet to children of “underserved” community. However, I believe behind that story are all strenuous efforts and untiring perseverance along with her outstanding talent that kept her lifelong dream alive and made it come true. I can feel in her a great passion for the ballet career in every word she said and every story she told. Because ballet is hard and highly…

Dance as a profession is very hard on our bodies both physically and mentally. Personally, this is something that I ask myself every day, but I know that deep down inside that dance is what I live for. Twyla Tharp realized that if you create art and love dance, you’d best believe in yourself with no ulterior motives. It took her seven minute dance on stage to give Tharp the development backbone she needed to continue in the dance career. Martha Graham once said that it takes ten years to become a dancer.…

My hope is that I am able to continue dancing and acting for the rest of my life and because of this I am eager to take in as much as I can. Because of these particular goals I have set out to spend as much time as possible in rehearsal halls and dance studios. This year especially has been me balancing dance classes every night, performing in The WIZ at First Stage children’s theater, and take acting classes every weekend at First Stage all while keeping just over a 4.0 GPA. Summers are not typically a break for me either. If I’m not taking a company acting class you can probably find me interning at First stage trying to earn credits for future classes.…

I spent countless hours in dance studios growing up, working tirelessly to hone these skills and perfect technique. A lifetime of dance taught me what it means to have discipline and dedication to a craft, values which I have also seen reflected in my clinical experiences.
