Have you ever thought about ways to stop a huge flood capable of destroying a whole state? (Talk about Hurricane Sandy). Flooding is a main product of climate change, which is one reason why climate change is an important issue in our society today. Climate change is defined, according to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as an “...increase in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising global average sea level.” The U.S. National Academy of Sciences concludes that “... the Earth system is warming and that much of this warming is very likely due to human activities.”(Joseph, 2016) However, It seems like the government isn’t doing anything to solve this issue. President Trump believes that it’s a waste of money to invest in climate change (Nation, 2016). Now, the real question is should the government act to prevent or at least slow down climate change? Apparently, the United State president, Donald Trump believes that investing in climate change is a waste of money. According to the article, “Trump’s Irreversible Threats” by The Nation, Trump’s plan (during his campaign for presidency) is “to slash investment in climate research and in renewable-energy and efficiency innovations” and “ to open up the leasing of federal lands for oil, gas, and coal production, onshore and off; and to revive the coal industry.” Basically, he sees climate change as a bad investment and bad for the economic growth. If the government decides to ban the use of carbon dioxide (carbon dioxides are also generated from industrial companies) from being discharged into the atmosphere; Industrial companies will have to find a new way of producing their product without the carbon dioxide being a by-product, which will definitely be expensive.(Lee,
