It’s the calm of the morning, and I’m tired. The smooth and curving edges of the trail entertain my eyes as I hike towards my goal, the summit of Mt. Hyndman. It’s a kind trail, made of a cluster of aromas and a collage of colors. Sagebrush and young saplings add to the sensation of the vista. Sharp crackles occur beneath my feet as insects scamper around, frantically searching for minute fissures to conceal themselves in. Vibrant birds chirp cheerful melodies, and a stream trickles by whistling a joyful tune. The rising sun peeks over the mountain, and I am warmed. The thick beams of light flash about me until they break the frigid state of the long untamed grass and light the trees with a certain glow. A gentle breeze wafts by; quietly rustling the leaves while soothingly spurring soft sweeping and swaying motions among the flowers. Nature’s grandeur surrounds me in a beautiful panorama, and this is only the beginning. The rich smell of the earth fills my nostrils as I break through the trees and steadily climb my way into the rough, irregular section of the trail. Protruding faces of rock slant upward as though to warn of …show more content…
The hoodies and gloves flooded back on as the bitter cold atmosphere became evident, but the thin-light jackets weren’t enough to obstruct the frosty wind. Hail came with the blasting wind, stinging my oh-so-cold face and soaking my frenzied hair. Only the summit lies ahead, a monument of fear, casting doubt in my head. Hands frozen, the tips of my fingers purple from the combination of cold temperatures and sharp rocks, I stopped. Just below the monstrous pile of frozen stones sits a small valley with small trees, a sure harbor from the cold. As I turned to descend, a hand obstructed me, grasping my damp sweater. I looked up at the reassuring figure before me, a rough yet determined look upon his face, and I grew resolute yet

The brisk trek through rough wilderness had taken its toll on the portly fog of a man. Now wheezing, he bowed low to prop up his arching frame on a knee high boulder on the side of the path. He watched with passive intrigue as giant sweat droplets fell to earth. Each one making a crater in the previously undisturbed soil carpeting the seldom used trail leading up to the Burbank overlook. He wanted nothing more than to feel the wind blow across his puffy face when he got to the top.…

It all began at the base of that hill. There I stood, unabashed by the ever-tensening knot in the bottom of my stomach. The epitome of all of my fears stared me down as i stood in the shadow of that majestic, towering, powerful mountain. The immense winter wind shook me to my core. In the Alps, there was no freedom from shivering.…

The blizzard shattered the hopes of innocent lives as they tried to get warm from the blazing fire. The village fell as if it was the Dark Ages, for the lives of many were gone. Ice shards overpowered the fire as snow piled up everywhere. Life lost meaning as the preeminent ice stacked on the thriving green. There was only one live that had a chance against the blizzard; this was the ground tribe.…

The clock ticked down as we had less than thirty minutes to find our way out of the labyrinth that we brought upon ourselves. The further we adventured into the unknown, the more our once unscathed gleaming shoes became soiled. We kept dredging through the dense, and sticky mud that now engulfed the path. The same path that was once created with the type of gravel that crunches and crackles like pop rocks in water. Every dreadful step lead us out of familiarity, inching into an unfamiliar landscape.…

Leaves and twigs crunch with each step against the hard, gravel floor. Tall, sturdy trees towered along either sides of the path, the canopies forming a gentle arc, almost as though they were cradling me. A very slight breeze whisks through, a few branches swaying to the melody of the wind. The humidity would be unbearable, if not for the occasional whiff of wind that caresses my skin.…

I recommend that Grafton should focus on improving persuasive writing, specifically on genres for responding, as this is the foundation of NAPLAN in this domain. As a general starting point, it would be beneficial to implement a socio-cultural teaching pedagogy in the classroom. This approach stresses the importance of developing multiple understandings about literacy and how it is used for a variety of purposes. Specific activities and practices that would be beneficial for targeted improvement in persuasive writing include: - Developing important language features e.g. normalisation and the appraisal system. Normalisation development will enable students to learn how to build and compact information within their sentences thus, constructing…

The ray of light from the flashlight casts a luminescent glow on the ground, allowing us to keep a watchful eye on where we are stepping. As we walk, I feel the crunch of breaking thin ice, and the stickiness of the mud under my feet. I smell the crisp, clean aroma of the morning air. We weave our way through the woods trying to avoid puddles of unfrozen water, and logs that are in the way of the trails we have made. Finally, I spot the…

It was getting colder by the hour and what seemed to be a small forest turned into an enduring hike. Everyone was exhausted you could see the nervousness and wary in their eyes. There was this unusual eery silence no one seemed to talk, the only thing you could hear was the crunching of the leaves underneath our worn-out feet and the chirping and howling of the creatures of the night that the autumn wind threw our way. I took a deep breath in , inhaling the bitter medicine from my inhaler, this was my fifth puff in the past hour and it wasn't really helping, my lungs were slowly tightening.…

Being in New York City itself was all too surreal, like a dream come true. Buildings raced each other in a quest to touch the soft blue sky and people littered the streets and sidewalks. Life there was upbeat and fast-paced and everyone and everything was moving, but then you crossed into Central Park. Crossing the sidewalk into the large park was like crossing the border into another world.…

An unordinary path to say the least. Large blocks of stone embedded in the soft sand scattered unevenly across the path leaves us confused on how to cross over. Around the calm stream, prickly bushes tingle and scratch on legs. Stepping cautiously back onto a shady part of the trail, the grainy, sand-like gravel shifts under the soles of shoes. As the shade disappears the sun's rays blaze onto Earth warming up its surface from the cool afternoon that come only a few minutes earlier. Moving back to the rushing stream a small, damp rock is rock is covered with slimy moss. Walking along the gravel path in the woods makes you realize how intricate the clash between weather and nature can be. Two natural forces both in harmony and constantly fighting.
