Persuasive Barack Obama

I can clearly remember being 11 and sitting in my advanced writing class, staring at a magazine on a shelf. The cover featured Barack Obama standing behind a podium and a headline about the 2008 election. I recall wondering what the difference between Republican and Democrat was and why it even mattered so much. I was in 5th grade with no concept of politics besides what we had discussed in class and nothing past the Civil War. Eight years later, with the 2016 election coming up fast, I understand so much more about the world and its complexities. I have opinions now and a vision for America, an America that 5th grade me should have grown up in but didn’t. I dream of an America that strives to improve, provide rights that we guarantee to everyone, …show more content…
It’s not. Yes, we have the right to speak our mind and the luxury of modern technology. But we are not the greatest country in the world. Not anymore, with endless debt and the grand ranking of 14th in education. We can still be great though. That boundless confidence and pride that lets us boast being the best is the very thing that will help us improve. As President Obama said in a campaign speech, “The America we believe in is within our reach. The future we hope for is within our sights.” You can’t go on any sort of social media without seeing people calling for change. Trending hashtags, petitions on Change.org, even Facebook features a news tab. People are coming together, striving to improve. America is already trying to change. America is trying to improve. The nation has done a lot of growing in the past few years, and that’s what will make it great again. Pride and …show more content…
W struggle to get by, to improve ourselves, to be better. But when you’ve been pushed down into the dirt so many times, you start to sit a little longer each time. But the amazing thing is that we always stand back up. We are a nation of perseverance. We have never given up. And maybe right now we are sitting in the dirt, trying to pick constellations out of a tattered sky. But in 1777, the Continental Congress made a new constellation by adding stars to the American flag, and that constellation has since always shown bright. George Washington once said, “We must never despair; our situation has been compromising before, and it has changed for the better; so I trust it will again. If difficulties arise, we must put forth new exertion and proportion our efforts to the exigencies of the times.” No matter the challenges of improving our country, of surviving, we will always rise above. We must then encourage optimism. To give up is to admit that America will never be great

America’s future vison is continually changing. It appears that regardless of the ideas one sets for America it is never followed through. George Washington, one of America’s first great leaders and presidents, warned the young nation not to allow factions, such as political parties and foreign affairs to take part in United States. My vison for America is that we once again regain a clean slate by paying off foreign debts, allow more advanced teachings in schools, and reducing waste and pollutants. The foreign debt America has gained, in today’s day and age, is the highest it has ever been.…

The most recent Presidential election has consumed the national consciousness. With each passing debate, speech, headline, and commercial, we have been flooded with negative messages that are highlighting all that is wrong with our current and perspective political leaders. We seem to have leaders who are devoid of the character necessary to handle the great challenges that face our nation and our world. It would be easy to sit in a state of despair about the future of our country. I, however, find solitude in knowing that we are raising a new generation of young adults in our schools, such as Nathan Lefeld, who can strive of excellence academically, persevere through adversity, find joy in service to others, and work extremely hard to earn…

Finally, Obama provides a vision for an ideal public life where the citizens of America should be civil and know that they can question each other 's ideas without questioning each other’s love for their country and things they might not agree upon. Nevertheless, Obama explains how the true American Dream can be strengthened for future generations of Americans if today 's society simply works together and stops clashing heads so often. However, this ultimate goal can only…

The Legacy of Manifest Destiny In the age of reform, America became engulfed in the spirit of Manifest destiny. Manifest Destiny was the belief that the people of the United States were destined with the mission of expansion from the Atlantic to the Pacific. It was a common believe that America was chosen by God as a superior nation to expand “from sea to shining sea.” A journalist for the United States Magazine and Democratic Review, John L. O'Sullivan, wrote about the movement in 1839.…

People are starting to come together and work as a whole to make are nation better. “One of the things that it stands for is this vexing notion that a great nation can consist entirely of refugees from other nations, that people of different, even warring religions and cultures can live, if not side by side, then on either side of the country’s Chester Avenue” (Quindlen, Pg 15). Today the citizens of the united states have come together once more because of armed conflict and enemy attack. Terrorism has led to devastation.…

All 85 essays were written to “Create a More Perfect Union” and ultimately, created a foundation for the United Stated of America to create an initial set of rules that would lead to a formal document called The Constitution.…

By the year 1796, America was a newly sovereign nation and, having just won their independence, the people and their government were launched towards a blank canvas on which the foundation of the country would be set for centuries after. George Washington, as a founder of our nation and the first of many leaders, wrote his Farewell Address after eight years serving as the commander in chief, and the document’s message, even today, lives as an emblem of this country’s founding ideals. Throughout the Address, as he announces that he does not seek a third term of presidency, Washington also conveys his desires for the future of the country. He expresses the significance of unity, religion, and education to best benefit the wellbeing of the nation…

I have a quote that I want you to read and then tell me if you know who wrote it: “Enjoying what we do is not always a feeling of enjoyment; it is sometimes the gritty resolution a man or woman shows in doing what must be done — perhaps with inner dread and yet without whimpering self-pity. I like the phrase, “without whimpering self-pity.” It sounds much more dramatic and important than the phrase, “without complaining.” I also like the phrase, “gritty resolution.” Was there anything that you did last week that you dreaded and still did with gritty resolution and without whimpering self-pity?…

What it means to be an American The majority of Americans would say their country, United States of America, is the greatest country on the face of the planet. However, it wasn’t always like this. Many of the bravest leaders who have ever lived, our ancestors, took part in fighting for the privileges and freedoms we Americans receive today. These courageous men and women stood up against what was wrong, and fought for what was right.…

A lot of people would like to argue that we are the best in a lot of arenas. If you look at another one of our prized freedoms the freedom of press, it might be surprising how little freedom of press our nation really has. How the press is just a tool used to feed us what the government needs us to be fed, and to hide all the things that the government thinks we don’t need to know. A lot of people would argue that our government is one of the best in the world but the recent shutdown might hinder that argument. The government is a group of adults who argue all day.…

Throughout my childhood, I encountered many situations in my life that had forced me to run away and hide. An example of this fear was when I had lost my mother at the age of four and was forced to grow up and evaluate what I wanted in my life. Similarly, America has become so scared of its own shadow that it has begun to sink into a place where darkness over powers and takes us alive. As I continue my education, I have repeatedly learned that my interest in America’s future continues to spike. Within the near future, I hope that America finds a way out of the darkness and begins to start the end of all the pain.…

The American Voice The American voice is something very unique to America; people who are born here or immigrated here, use their own language to describe what this country means to them. America has long been a land of freedom, opportunity and equality, from the time of “1492, when Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue.” In researching this topic, I read many multiple different articles and watched a variety of online videos to learn what others thought of what this country has to offer. Numerous people over the years have written about what America means to them; while not being a common thought, this is an important subject for us to discuss and examine. In my opinion, the American voice means that we as Americans have the right…

It was an emotion filled speech, because the speech was a reminder of the horrendous actions of a few people. President Obama points out that every year in the United States there are 30,000 deaths from guns, two thirds of which are suicides. “And instead of thinking about how to solve the problem, this has become one of our most polarized, partisan debates...” said President Obama.
