Addressing a mass amount of people in hopes to produce a clear and concise message is achievable using proper public rhetoric. “Aristotle saw the function of rhetoric as the discovery in each case of the available means of persuasion” (Griffin, 2012). Ancient rhetoricians have produce principals that guide this art of persuasion that allow the message to be clear, concise, and persuasive. The cannons of rhetoric are invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. By using all five cannons, a speaker can be successful in giving logical communication, ethical statements, and obtain an emotional appeal with the audience. Every word spoken was given great thought before execution. The techniques used when inventing this speech followed all five cannons of rhetoric. Touching each facet of the audience lives he reinforced the Dr. Kings true message to the community by painting a picture of what Dr. King would say if he returned to Church of God in Memphis, "I fought for freedom, he would say, but not for the freedom of people to kill each other with reckless abandonment, not for the freedom of children to have children and the fathers of the children walk away from them and abandon them as if they don 't amount to anything. I fought for people to have the right to work, but not to have whole communities and people abandoned. That is not what I lived and died for” (Jehl, 1993). This speech is filled with examples of the crisis facing the American people and this specific location of this communication is greatly valuable. Going to the book of John chapter 13, Jesus said “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another”() This message is what not only being recommunicated by Dr. King but twenty-five year late President Clinton is still sending the same
