Element 1: Persuasion
Persuasion is the key to convincing someone to do something that you want. It is important because it helps you to have people believe what you are saying so you look more credible. Even if you do not really know what you are talking about, but look confident doing it, you can persuade people to think or believe anything. For example, Ryan Gosling uses persuasion in order to convince Emma Stone to have a drink with him. He becomes very persistent with his smooth, gentleman-like ways, but ultimately seems to fail. He continues to tell Emma how beautiful she is and how he is unable to focus his attention anywhere but on her. Emma, although she could not deny that Ryan was an extremely good looking man, she figures

Body language, posture, and actions are all components of non-verbal communication. We are much more likely to judge someone through what they do rather than what they say. When Steve Carell was venting to a woman at the bar about his wife’s affair and his poor luck with females, it was clear she was not listening by the way she was facing. At first, she acknowledged him sitting there and even responded to a few of the things he was saying. Then when she got bored and uninterested, she faced towards her friends to show Steve that she did not care what she had to say. The action solidifies her lack of concern. I chose verbal communication because it often implies the mood of a particular moment. For example, when the woman faced her back towards Steve the viewers can imply she does not care what he has to say. Right when he thinks the world is crashing down and no one is there for him, and the lady at the bar can’t even listen to his rant for longer than a minute. I personally think that was a message that the movie producers wanted the viewers to take out of that scene as …show more content…
A very large basis of the movie is that Steve needs to change his ways from a dork to a man. With Ryan Gosling’s help, he is able to transform into a new person. Ryan starts by throwing away Steve’s shoes and suggests that as long as he is not in a frat he should not be wear New Balance sneakers. Ryan recommends that he opts for much more business attire looking shoes like with a pointed toe and leather. Before Ryan’s help, Steve was still trying to find himself as a newly single man. He needed desperately to rise above the heartache of his beloved wife’s affair. Once Steve was dressed to a tee and had the confidence of a tiger, he was able to pick up some girls at the bar. Surely he made a few mistakes as a beginner in the dating world, but even when he thought he had messed it all up he realized that what he said was working. With a little bit of Ryan’s help, Steve was able to discover his personal identity and establish

The use of nonverbal cues in the two sexes are different in a way that we message they send out are opposites. Wood explains that women use cues such as tilting their heads, smiling and “condensing” their bodies to take up less space, and that makes them seem approachable and friendly. This is what I think about the character Ryan. Another prediction that I have about the character Ryan is that he isn’t just a regular boy he is from the boarding school because in the text it says “Across the lake there is a boys boarding school ” I think this because, why else would boys be in the middle of the forest? and Ryan lives in California where Louisa lives and where Louisa lives there is war that is happening, so they must have sent all the people that live in California to Mississauga where the boarding school is located. This is another reason what I think about the character Ryan. My last prediction about the character Ryan is that I think that he is a very nice boy because in the text it says “Ryan is very polite and uses his manners all the time” I think this because if you use you manners and if you are poile all the time then you must be nice and he is very friendly to Louisa because they were talking and he offered the girls some…

Nonverbal communication has to do with how one will express how they are feeling simply through facial expression and body language. “Nonverbal factors can make the face-saving deception either succeed or fail,” which is not a good thing when one is telling a big lie because people do not realize even though your verbally saying one thing, your body language could be telling another story, but most liars tend to get caught (183). There were a handful of examples when it came to deceptive communication through out the movie. One example is when Fletcher was walking into work and was greeting everyone with nice compliments, he said to one guy “ Hey Pete! Losing weight?…
