The movie Rann gives us a glimpse of how celebrity can play a role in media and politics. Vijay Malik, Jay Malik, and Amrish Kakkar are all celebrities that have claimed their fame due to their television networks being two of the biggest networks in all of India. Digvijay Hooda and Mohan Pandey are the political characters in the media that will contribute to the dynamics of the relationship between media and politics and how it all that ties into the role of celebrities. Lastly, Purab Shastri—who is a new journalist at India 24/7—is the character is slowly on the rise to become the new celebrity. Jay—who is high-strung and figuratively is playing with fire—and Amrish—who is competition to Jay and Vijay and represents greed—both represent the parts of media that use gossip to create false news just for monetary gain. Pandey shows the corrupt side of politics that will do any and everything in their power to gain votes and support from the people of their community—even if that means accusing the opposing side for criminal activities. Hooda on the other hand is the politician who serves as the sacrificial lamb to Pandey. Vijay is the honorable celebrity who takes into consideration his principles and ethics to obtain his status, but being a father is his weakness. He backs his son for things without doing his own research to see how and/or if what they are presenting to the Indian community valid and reliable. These characters do a great job at showing how politics can control media with gossip and how media will do anything to receive money and viewers to their sources. Although corruption consumed majority of these character, Purab did not let him be consumed and instead stood for honesty and dignity.
