Examples Of Being Selfish By Stephen Chbosky

Improved Essays
Perspectives Stephen Chbosky once said, “We accept the love we think we deserve.” I have always thought of myself as stubborn and childish. I’m not able to trust people as much when they mess up, I don’t take commands very well or I don’t like to do things other people tell me because I think I can do it on my own. I also act very childish, like stupid little kiddy things amuse me and in a lot of situations, I don’t act mature or take things seriously. Many people have always and will always see me as ‘giggly, smiley, funny Nevaeh’. People always tell me to stop smiling because I never seem to stop smiling. Some people even get mad at me because I laugh at anything and everything. A lot of people don’t really see me as stubborn but I am. People …show more content…
At first when people meet me I am a very trusting person and I open up really easily. But the second someone goes and does something stupid or dumb that makes me not trust them, it’s hard for me to trust them again. For example, my ex best friend, Jewel, she was my best friend and we were super close. She went over to my house after school everyday and we always hung out. I could talk to her about anything. But one day she had went and spread all kinds of rumors about me. She told people so many nasty things about me that weren’t true. After that I didn’t want to be her friend. She tried talking to me and being friendly with me but I just ignored her. The next few years that I was at that school I didn’t talk to her and I had no intentions to. Another example is my dad. When him and my mom got a divorce it was finally time to decide who was going to get me. My mom looked at my dad and told him, “I get her, end of story.” When I was little that really hurt me because I thought he didn’t care about me, or at least that’s what my mom had convinced me. It was years until I let him back in, even to this day I still have a hard time letting him in, It’s hard for me to let people back into my life. I’m very stubborn with letting people back into my life. I don’t usually ever let people back in. Most people don’t see me as stubborn. When I tell them I am they don’t believe me, …show more content…
They always see me all happy and smiley. One reason why people think of me as happy is because I never stop smiling. One example of me always smiling is people always smile back at me. They’ll look at me and just smile and then I realize that I was smiling at them. Another example is people always tell me that I have a really pretty smile. One time when I was in Utah this girl stopped me and told me that my smile was beautiful and that just made me smile even more. Another reason people think of me as happy is because I laugh at the stupidest things. One example is my cousin, Aaron, he’ll always just look at me and say something really random and I’ll just break out laughing. Every time he does that I laugh for like 20 minutes straight and it makes everyone else laugh. Another example of me laughing all the time is a few weeks ago I was at the movies with Marcell and the movie was about to start, and I just started laughing. There was nothing to laugh at but I just started laughing. He just looked at me and for some reason that made me laugh even more. He just kept looking at me and I just kept laughing and laughing. Finally he was like ,”What’s so funny!!?” And I was just laughing and laughing. After a while I calmed down and he said, “What were you laughing at,” and I just looked at him and I was like, “Honestly, I don’t even know.” When people tell me that I’m happy I agree with them, because I am. I always will be, and

Sometimes I felt like it was somehow my fault and that I should have tried to help the situation. Other times I felt angry that they would do this to my sisters and I. I feel that I most likely felt this was because they’re both natural reactions to have after something big changes in life. Most children feel that divorce is their fault, but after a few months of readjusting to the new way my life was going to be I realized that my feelings were wrong. I learned that there were gaps in my knowledge about the whole thing and that it had nothing to do with me.
