First, personification, a figure intended to represent an abstract quality, allow the reader to understand Death through the sense of human actions. Examples of personification are listed in this paragraph within the two poems and song lyric. In Gwendolyn Brook’s poem, “The Mother”, death is seen through the abortions of children. “Abortions will not let you forget,” (Brooks 190 1). In this poem, the would-be mother cannot forget about the abortions she has had. She is constantly reminded of the choices she made and how regretful she feels that she made this choice. Despite the choices that she made, she still shows remorse that she loves them all. Additionally, in Emily Dickinson’s poem, “Because I could not stop for Death,” death is seen
