Personality Type Reflection Paper After a long and awkward silence in a standup comedy set, Marc Maron broke the silence with, “For my next trick I will make everyone understand me.” I before believed that trying to explain myself to a group would be as abstract as a magic trick. I believed the illusion of me was like magic; slight of hand, smoke and mirrors. But now through personality tests I can simplify what is the manic-depressive whirlwind of my personality. A daughter- mother team developed the Myers-Briggs personality test in the 1940s (Rathus, 2010, p.395). They based the test off the work of Carl Jung, a psychologist who studied under the well-known father of psychology, Sigmund Freud. Carl Jung believed there are different …show more content…
As an extrovert I am outgoing and enjoy spending my time with other people (Cherry, K. 2015, June 02). I am extremely comfortable in social situations and thrive off the energy of others. Extroverts are vocal with their opinions feelings; this often leads to conflict with authority (Butt, J. 2009, October 16). I love acting and want to seek a profession in theater. This love of the theater and comfort being on stage relates directly to my extroverted personality. I once had a conflict with a teacher that was prompted by the teaching of opinion by that teacher. An introverted student may have stayed quite and chose not to speak up. Alas, being an extrovert, I was rather vocal with my opinions of both the material and the teacher. This leaded me to being entrenched in a rather heated battle with that instructor. All these things considered, I believe very strongly that I am an …show more content…

It is not the singular grand achievement that a person should be judged upon; rather, it’s the collection of smaller triumphs that should determine one’s character. Therefore, it makes sense that my biggest obstacles manifest in my day-to-day life; for instance, my character had been truly tested in Boone High’s spring play production--the lead-up to the premier had been scared by setbacks, marred by the lack of memorization, and saturated by stress. First and foremost, theatre is more than just an extracurricular activity or resume fluff because it has taught me several lessons; and, in hindsight, theater has exposed some character flaws, as well. For example, my abilities as an actor outshine my poor time management skills--attributed to the fact I have a severely busy schedule. Nevertheless, I still learned my lines and performed one of our most memorable and beloved shows.…

Upon reading the results of my Myers-Briggs profile, my first thoughts were that it wasn’t any more in-depth than other personality profiles I have completed in the past. The descriptions about the way I direct and receive energy, take in information, come to conclusions, and approach the outside world were very general and I do not think that the Thinking description describes me well, because I know that I place high value on understanding and harmony among group members. That being said, once I read my personality type description on the second page, my reaction was “wow, how did this test get my personality traits so spot-on, just from me choosing words that I like better than others?” My profile categorizes me as an ENTP (Extroversion Intuition Thinking Perceiving) personality type.…

Theater alone has tested and dramatically altered my personal and political views. With that, it has brought me face to face with multiple issues I would have never encountered otherwise. The first significant challenge I encountered in my theatrical objective was the decision to undermine my father’s expectation of me pursuing a career in engineering- like him- and instead dedicating my high school years to the study and participation in theatre. My identity shifted further after being…
