When he became president this prompted for some problems that were about to happen during his presidency. Several states became to leave the Union before Lincoln was even inaugurated and ultimately laying the grounds for the civil war to begin. Abe had done an outstanding job keeping the union together and pushing down against the fight dividing the nation. The victory of the civil war for the Union brought the Emancipation Proclamation, another event that Lincoln is well-known for. After all of this going on Lincoln surely did not think he would have a shot at reelection but it was clear the people wanted Abraham Lincoln as the president for he had dignity and morality like no other.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and in this case it was the end of a life of a huge historical figure. Abraham Lincoln was killed on April 14, 1865. He was assassinated by the famous John Wilkes Booth while enjoying a play with his wife. His memory lives on and many still live by his touching words and meaningful speeches
