A perfect example of a feeling personality type because he was given a promotion which is something he did not have to have faith in the unknown. The unknown was what was causing him to doubt being in the federal armed services and fleeing to harvard was the best thing for him. The actions others take have a tremendous impact on Johnnie's psych for example when his mother writes him telling him about how his father has disowned him and his name can not be uttered in the house. when Hendrick's was flogged for striking a superior Johnnie was not able to sleep.
