The symptoms of schizotypal personality disorder are: ideas of reference; odd beliefs or even magical beliefs (DSM-5, 2013), such as when Carl Landau believed that his hissing would prevent toxins from entering his body; unusual perceptual experiences including bodily illusions; odd thinking and speech(DSM-5, 2013), such as when Landau would keep his body waste in his closet to protect his family; paranoid or suspiciousness (DSM-5, 2013), for instance that most food was poison; inappropriate affect; behavior that was odd or eccentric (DSM-5, 2013), like his hissing and coughing when he ate food; lack of close friends or relationships, other than 1st degree family; and lastly excessive social anxiety (DSM-5, 2013).
